Hi!

I am paying close attention to Leica products, especially D-lux 5 and D-lux 6. Does anyone know for sure when the D-lux 6 will be released? . In addition, Should I wait for D-lux 6 or purchase D-lux 5 at this time?

the reason why i would love to buy leica is that i want to find a compact camera which can produce the highest quality images and replace my Canon 450D + kits which are quite heavy to store in my bag.

Probably a short time after Panasonic releases the LX6 that the D-Lux 6 would be based on. Panasonic’s LX models have a two-years product cycle with each new generation typically released around photokina time. Extrapolating from past performance one would expect an LX6 in August or September, to be followed by a D-Lux 6 in October.

Natuan27:

I am waiting for same announcement from panny: the LX3 was announced July 2008 & LX5 was announced on same date in 2010 thus I expect same date (mid july) 2012. Based on speculation larger sensor and to your point I am hoping to see an optical viewfinder built in to the camera. Oherwise the LX5 is selling for $379. in US and is a great camera for that price and half of the price of the d-lux 5.....

Panny is talking about putting a 1 inch sensor in the 6. So leica should follow. I hope leicas has a built in viewfinder and a better zoom than the DL-5. The d-lux 5 was the best in the D-lux series, just my two cents.

Friend of mine bought the DLux-5 ($800), EVF-1 ($285) and the hand-grip ($75). All together ran him $1160. I bought an LX-5 open-box for $310 and the EVF in "9" condition for $85 (total $395) and don't need a grip because the LX-5 has one. That's a whopping $765 difference. I know it comes with LightRoom and a 2 yr warranty, but I already had Lightroom with my M9 and anyway it only costs $145 for the full version @ B&H. And as regards the 2-yr warranty, for $765 difference I could buy two more LX5s...or an LX6 and LX7 :D And I don't really use these cameras (had a DLux-3 before), it's just my emergency backup when I travel with the M9. Although, I can see me using the LX5 more, on account of having an eyelevel finder. I hope its successor has one too, hopefully built-in not the clumsy add-on.

bocaburger:

you are exactly correct & based on the fuji x10's selling success the LX7 with a built in optical view finder and a 1" sensor is a home run- BTW here is speculation from Photokina 2012: what we'd like to see:

Panasonic LX6:

The rumour mill has suggested for a long time that the Panasonic LX5 will be getting an upgrade in 2012, but so far we've seen no concrete evidence that a new camera is on the cards.

Panasonic's LX series proved very popular with the LX3, but the company admitted that sales of the LX5 could have been better. Recently, Sony's RX100 premium compact camera with a 1-inch sensor seems to have laid down the gauntlet for premium pocketable cameras, so it seems likely that other brands will be keen to follow suit.

Lens might be nice but sadly the rumour is that it'll be the same size sensor as the D-LUX5. May well be a good choice for people buying that class of camera for the first time but doesn't feel like a worthwhile upgrade option.

I'll pin my hopes on a sexy small larger sensor system camera instead - although if it's G5 shaped it'll be horrible. The D-LUX5 had a clean simple look and feel that's aged well.

Here is the link to the LX7 at a Russian website Летнее пополнение фотокамер Panasonic | Аналитика - 3DNews - Daily Digital Digest I bought the RX100. Great pocketable p&s. This will replace my D-Lux 4.

I am disappointed enough because I expected more innovations.

The opening from f.1, 4 - f.2, 3 is certainly appreciable, but LX5/D-Lux 5 is not all the same in lack of light.

I would have preferred other innovations, such as for example a small integrated viewfinder, but certainly not a smaller sensor !

Other information will more inform us, in particular on the second serrated roller in the back, but I do not think that this new arrival will replace my D-Lux 5…

why? i never bought the lx-5, i have the dlux 4 and think it is a great camera and felt the 5 was not enough of a change to buy. this one, however, seems quite different and worth the purchase (especially with the lumix price tag). wondering your reasons for not shifting to the 7

I had a Dlux-3 but didn't get a 4 because 60mm is too short on the long end for me. I went to the 5 (LX5) only because of the clip-on EVF. I really don't like rear screen viewing. The reason I won't go to the 7 is I don't care about the extra stop (and frankly am skeptical how good a 1.4 lens can be at that price point) and I would need to buy a different EVF. What would get me to leave the 5 behind would be a built-in EVF. Note that the only reason I have this camera is for an emergency backup to my M9.
