manatee Posted June 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anybody using this case as seen on the Leica site? Leica Camera AG - Photography - Neoprene Case M I would use it as an extra protection in another (soft) bag. Please tell me about your experience? There seem to be one with long and one with short front. Will the short front version be OK for the camera plus a 50mm summicron? THX Rob
Advertisement Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hi manatee, Take a look here Neoprene Case for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
epand56 Posted June 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2009 I use it all the time. It is perfect on my M8, I really recommend it.
wda Posted June 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2009 It is a very useful and inexpensive accessory. I have the long version to cater for my 75mm lens. It is also useful for shorter lenses; the front just collapses if pushed into a bigger bag.
Nicoleica Posted June 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2009 I too have the long nose version. I also use the camera protector half-case, and the neoprene case fits over that too.
john_newell Posted June 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 30, 2009 I don't know whether it is the same or not, but I've been using the OpTech regular and long nose neoprene cases on Ms for a couple of years now and find them very satisfactory. One of the reasons I use them is vibration isolation inside a regular bag. Highly recommended.
Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted June 30, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 30, 2009 I bought one for each M8 when the cases came out. Rather cheap, practical and very recommendable. Both cameras are usually in these cases with or without mounted lens and fitted into a normal camera bag. Teddy
luigi bertolotti Posted June 30, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I saw the "short nose" version at my dealer's and realized it is really a good accessory for the price... so I ordered the "long nose" to accomodate 75 too... this happened 4 weeks ago, and it hasn't yet arrived... doug_m Posted June 30, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2009 Get the long nosed one -even for short lenses. They are great for the money.

One of the reasons I use them is vibration isolation inside a regular bag. Highly recommended. Same here. Got a short nose cheap from RG Lewis when I was buying a 90mm. It fits my M2 perfectly and lets me throw it in an overnight bag alongside clothes, etc with impunity. Regards, Bill
john_newell Posted June 30, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 30, 2009 By the way, there is an OpTech neoprene case that is a very good fit for the body alone, if you keep a body without a lens in your bag.
Arbo68 Posted June 30, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 30, 2009 I also use the "long nose" version - even with short lenses you will find is pretty usefull, because you can keep an external finder on the body ans still use the case to protect the entire combination. one drawback I have to mention (when I used the case earier on with my M6): - the case is tied to the camera strap, so it could be that the case is hanging in front of the lens, when you are shooting....just be aware of that and handle accoringly :-) Cheers, Arndt

I just keep mine un-tethered and stick it in a pocket when the camera is in use. Regards, Bill

THX Rob I transport my M6 in one sometimes I think they are really good and soften that metallic sound when the camera bumps on anything hard accidentally. Not sure how weatherproof it is as neoprene has been used for a long time for wet suits. The short nose will even take my 75mm so no problem

Luigi. I have the short nose version which accommodates the 75mm easily. You might want to consider reviewing your order as the long nose version is really designed for long lenses and it also looks a little odd- sort of anteater odd
doug_m Posted June 30, 2009 Share #15 Posted June 30, 2009 1. I've owned both the short nose and long nose Leica neoprene cases and am certain that the long nose is best- especially if you use any of the new fast lenses or the 75mm or 90mm lenses. 2. One fix for the loop on strap issue is to cut a piece of double sided velcro tape so that its about 1/4 inch wide and use it to attach the case loop to camera strap so that the case can be easily removed. The only problem with this and the velcro on the case itself is that the leica strap gets roughed up a bit by the velcro hooks. Anyone else had this problem with the velcro roughing up the straps? StS Posted June 30, 2009 Share #16 Posted June 30, 2009 I'm a fan of this neoprene case. Sometimes the M8 travels in my briefcase just being protected by this case. This hasn't given me any issues yet. I also like the two carriers for SD-cards (which actually can take up to two SD-cards each, if they are in the new, smaller boxes). I find the short-nose a very tight fit for the 75 Summarit with hood attached. 2. I avoid the issue by not attaching the case to the strap at all. The empty case either stays in the luggage or gets stuffed into a pocket, a glovebox or wherever.
