Few weeks ago I posted the fact that I was commiting myself to the M systeme starting to buy cronIV 2/35 non asph.

Lots of you gave me great advices and I finally chose this lens wich will remind me of the cron 2/50 that I was using a long time ago on a M6.. (The lens is in Solms to be coded right now)

I am very happy to announce that in a week or so, I will be the delighted owner of a used under guaranty black M8 in mint condition. (the shop will download the new firmware.)

Now my question is what will be the next lens?

I was looking at the Summarit 75 that seems light, tiny and efficient.

Is there users on the forum who can share their experience and maybe pics with this lens.

Thanks to all !

Going towards the long end is a matter of personal choice. I would think a short lens, like a 24 or 21 would be more useful. The 75 is really quite long on the M8 as it will give you an angle of view of a 90 mm on a film M.

The whole lens choice thing really is quite personal. In essence, there are no really bad lenses around, I feel. The Summarit 75 is a great lens - I like the drawing very much.

A couple of things to consider, maybe:

- You've got a 50 already - the 75 is not soo much different in terms of focal length. I realize I'm the minority but I like the 90mm focal length even on the M8.

- The 50 pairs up very nicely with a 28. The Elmarit-M is very nice in this respect - and extraordinary small. Same price league as the 75 you mentioned

- The Summarit does not have a built-in hood. The external screw-on hood is just tedious to use

Summarit 75 was the 2nd lens I bought for my M8... as Giordano said, me too found my (still beloved ;)) 90 a bit too long; choosed it for the price and for, frankly, I sedom feel so confident to afford a shot at f2 (not to speak of 1,4...) with such a focal. I never regretted of my choice and it has became my standard companion for going out with "light set" (21 asph, cron 35 asph, 75).

Three quickly found examples taken with it... the BW portrait is with lens wide open, the other two at 5,6.

Asfar as I can make out, the OP has a 35. In that case a 75 makes a nice pair at the long end. 75 can be a quite useful length. In this case the Summilux:

Thanks to all,

I love the grain and softness of the portrait in B and W.

I think that the next 2 could be the Summarit 75 and a 21 or 24 to complete the cron 35.

All the best to LUF people

The 75mm Summarit is a brilliant lens, not much inferior to the Summicron when wide open, and really not at all stopped down to f:4. It is very resistant to flare and reflexes, to the degree that I have often used it without the optional hood---and I am a confirmed lenshoodist! The mechanical quality is also very good indeed.

My 'walkabout kit' for the M8 is a 28mm Summicron ASPH and the Summarit. This gives me the equivalent of 37 and 100mm:

28 x 1,33 = 37,24

75 x 1,33 = 99,75

Granted that lens selection is a personal matter, but one lens for 'inolvement' and one for the telling detail is a good idea, better than just two of the same, and 35 + 90mm was of course the basic kit of the classical 35mm photojournalist!

The v.4 35mm Summicron is also a nice lens on a M8, where the soft edges and corners at f:2--2.8 are cropped away. It is technically not up to the ASPH of course, but that does not always matter. I own both this lens, a 35mm Summilux ASPH and three 90mm lenses (too many!) but the kit above is my favourite. I do have wider lenses too and use them when appropriate, but that's another matter.
