opribramsky Posted February 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, I am new (again, coming back from Digital) to the Leica M System and got hold on a very good deal for a M6 in amazing conditions. I would like to use the camera as my "everyday "point and shoot" camera", therefore I am looking for a cheap, but reasonable lens which I would put on the M6 and "forget". By cheap, I mean a lens where I do not need to start to cry immediatly if it got some "scratches" or other sign of use (obviously hopefully not on the glass surface itself). What would be you recommandations for a "bargain" deal on a 50mm or 35mm lens? What would be a good Leica one? What about alternatives? Any Russian lenses you would recommend as an alternative? Or is the quality way too low? Thanks a lot in advance for your advice! Greetings!

andybarton Posted February 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2009 Welcome! See if you can find a Summaron 35mm f2.8 An absolutely outstanding lens, for very little money (relatively ) Unfortunately, at least in the UK, 35mm M lenses seem to have disappeared from the used market. ffordes don't have any (of any spec, any age), reddot have only one (a f3.5 version, which isn't as good as the later f2.8)
Michael Hiles Posted February 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2009 I agree with Andy. And/or a Summicron 50 - any rigid version (II,III or IV). They are all wonderful.
richam Posted February 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2009 Another vote for the 35mm f2.8 Summaron. Just a great lens.
andit Posted February 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2009 Hi there and welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of Leica. If you are looking for reasonable lenses at prices that are humane, why not look at the lenses built by Cosina Voigtlander. You will often see posts here about cv lenses. The lenses are of a decent build quality with really good optics. Just ask Sean Reid here on the forum - he has done extensive testing of these lenses (see http://www.reidreviews.com). If you are willing to spend a little more, you can also look at the Zeiss range of lenses. They are also built by Cosina but do offer better construction and optical quality that often equals Leica. Hope this helps you a bit. Andreas PS: I started out with a CV 40mm Nokton (f/1.4) lens. This is a very affordable lens, and one that can turn out excellent results. francofile Posted February 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2009 Welcome to the world of Leica. A lens you might consider is the Summicron-C 40 mm. Although this is out of production and has been for many years it represents real value for money. UK prices are in the range of £180 to £300. Having owned both the VC 40mm and the Summicron I believe that the Leica performance and build are superior. Together with an M6 it makes a compact, carry anywhere outfit. Good luck and best wishes Andrew
