Advertisement Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi jackal, Take a look here Macro elmar 90mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted October 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 7, 2008 is it good for macro shots ? Depends how you define macro.
carstenw Posted October 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 7, 2008 I had it and traded it for a 90AA. It is dependable, but not exciting. The collapsible nature annoyed me somehow. The boke is nice, but f/4 means that I often had to use higher ISO than I wanted, which as you know, on the M8 is not good. It doesn't get you that close in any case. How close do you want to go? The 75 Apo gets you 1:7, the 90 Macro gets you just 1:3 with the attachment, a little more than twice as close, at many times the inconvenience. I never regretted it. I do own a Visoflex III and a Bellows II, which work well, but I am kinda thinking about selling them and picking up a 100 Macro-R instead. The M8 can be goaded into doing macro-like things, but SLRs do it so much better.

marknorton Posted October 7, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2008 It's a good travel lens but by the time you've messed about with the clunky hood, the little Elmarit is just as good. As a macro lens, it's a curiosity, but doesn't go closer than 3:1.
Guest bwcolor Posted October 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 7, 2008 I have it for my M7. Very compact, and I understand that it CAN be collapsed on the M8 unlike some other collapsible lenses. The hood is a real lens SHADE, the deepest shadow over the lens I know of, which is very nice for flare and haze avoidance. f4 is fine for this focal length. I don't own the close-up attachement, just use this lens as a nice small 90mm. Very easy to carry around is my main point about it. Also use new series 50mm Summicron f2, 35mm Summicron f2 and 28mm Summicron f2. All fine lenses and all compact. When I am able to buy an M8.2, I guess my favored daily roaming kit will be the 28mm and the 50mm, and after that if I am still roaming, on the 'M9 FF' I'll use the 35mm and the little 90mm. I love to share my Leica comments, speculations, with the thoughtful souls in this group.
tom0511 Posted October 7, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I own it, find it very usefull as a light and small travel lens. It is very sharp, however I would say its rendering/bokeh can be somewhat harsh sometimes. Thats why I prefer the 75 Summarit for portrait. It can prdouce nice macros but its not easy to predict the output because one can not see the "DOF"
Guest breverl Posted October 7, 2008 Share #8 Posted October 7, 2008 Hello ! ... I bought it just some weeks ago, and it is now after my summilux 50 the most I enjoy ... ... I would never ever sell it anymore ... ... see for ex. some of my pictures made with it: .... in tender spot ... link: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/65043-tender-spot.html ... well macro is not the right expression but I love it nevertheless... sm23221 Posted October 7, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2008 Excellent lens, it's my second most used one. Very compact and light for travel. Extending the lens when needed takes about 1/8 sec - no big deal!
