Advertisement Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Hi jackal, Take a look here 28 cron vs. 28 elmarit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted June 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2007 The Elmarit has more contrast, if you mean the Asph version. This can be good and bad. The Elmarit is a very sharp little lens, but the Cron has a great look to it, a cross between the sharp Leica Asph look and the more classic bokeh, but it is a *lot* more expensive. I opted for the Cron myself, but this is certainly a personal decision.
norm_snyder Posted June 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2007 Carsten-- Your note is reassuring, since I got a Fedex letter off today with my order form for the 28mm Summicron. It should be in Solms on Wednesday, before the deadline. I hope I don't have to wait too long. I miss the 35mm "field of view" relative to the field with my M6's. tjv Posted June 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 26, 2007 A f2.0 28mm would be a dream come true for me. I love the results I've seen from the Summicron but could never afford it. I got the Elmar and it's fast becoming my favourite lense. Beautiful to use and even better results. An extra stop would be great but... lct Posted June 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2007 which has more contrast/resolution at middle F stops ? Hard to tell significant differences as far as contrast and resolution at f/5.6 or f/8, at least with my RD1. In general, the Elmarit looks a bit more contrasty with a slightly harsher bokeh and perhaps a better correction against flare and vignetting but the 'fingerprint' of both lenses is very close actually. I still prefer the Summicron for speed and bokeh rendition but the Elmarit is a fantastic little lens and it's a true bargain at the price IMHO. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/21299-leica-elmarit-m-1-28-28mm.html
KM-25 Posted June 26, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2007 I have the cron and love it, but I will only ever shoot it on film rigs or a digital camera that does not crop it..most of Leica's glass is too good to be cropped and this one fits that bill easily. I knew this would be popular before the whole M8 hype hit the streets, so I ordered it last Fall. It is smooth, darn near perfect wide open and has great color saturation. Get one if you can. I just got back to the U.S. after 23 days in Europe including 10 days with the Leica Academie. I would estimate that about 60% of my shots were made with the 28 Cron. An additional 10-15% with the WATE and the remainder primarily with the 35 Lux, 50 Lux and the 135 3.4 APO Telyt. As for the 28 Cron, don't leave home without it. andybarton Posted June 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 27, 2007 It's "shorthand" for the Wide Angle Tri Elmar It's the new Tri-Elmar sold with the M8 in mind, but that will also work on other Ms. Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA TRI-ELMAR-M 16-18-21 mm f/4 ASPH. Artichoke Posted June 28, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 28, 2007 it is an outstanding lens tack sharp even wide open and lovely tonality/color rendition/bokeh one the M8 it seems an ideal focal length & has become one of my favorite lenses here is a BW that shows its prowess near wide open in challenging light conditions Welcome, dear visitor! rosuna Posted June 28, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 28, 2007 The true is that the current set of M lenses are superb. It is incredible how good they are when you consider the supercompact size. It is very, very hard to find reflex lenses as good as the M Leicas are. The Canon 35mm f/1.4 L, for instance, is a great lens, but very big, and the fingerprint of the lens is very different to that of the Summilux 35mm ASPH.
