taikuodo Posted July 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently picked up a Leica Summicron-R 35 f2, version 1 with hood and box for $600 USD. I'm really new to the Leica history, and I thought I did well, but now I'm thinking I might have gotten just an O.K deal, perhaps not even that good. As I'm learning now that there are different versions, and this one is the earliest, although it does have an 8-bladed aperture versus the 6-blades on the new one. You can tell the lens is old, but the glass is great and the action is smooth... what do you guys think? Did I pay too much?
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Hi taikuodo, Take a look here How Did I Do? Leica Summicron-R 35 F2 V1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mmradman Posted July 29, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2011 How do you intend to use it; on R film camera or on DSLR via adapter? You can find lots of information on Leica gear by visiting WIKI - click tab on top of the Leica User Forum webpage. I think optically all R35mm Summicron versions are identical, but i could be wrong. Edit V1 and V2 are different.
taikuodo Posted July 29, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) I intend to use it on my Nikon FE2 film camera via adapter and my Canon 5d via adapter. I'm just wondering if I overpaid, because I want to try this 35 focal length, and then the 50 focal length summicron, and keep the one I like better. EDIT: The wiki says that the lens goes for $350 as of 2010, but prices are definitely not that low, looking at ebay. The wiki says the v1 of the summicron 50 goes for $175, while there are auctions going for $350+ on ebay at the moment. Just wondering if anyone knew the street price as of 2011. mmradman Posted July 30, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 30, 2011 One thing Wiki is not good enough is price, you are quoting price entry done some time ago and market can go up and down. Rest assured R lenses are in demand by people using them on 3rd party film and digital SLRs, R35mm f2 is not the cheapest, also it is rare. andybarton Posted July 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 30, 2011 You won't be able to use it on a Canon and a Nikon, only one or the other. To put it on a Nikon, you need to change the mount. You can't just use an adaptor.

earleygallery Posted August 1, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 1, 2011 The lens is one of my favourites and I prefer it to the v2. If you have a good example the price is kind of irrelevant, a bargain anyway in Leica terms. As Andy pointed out you need to change the actual mount for Nikon, but can buy an adaptor for the Canon which is cheaper and less hassle.
