jaapv Posted August 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As some of you know, I have been specializing in Safari photography for the last twenty years. So I am very interested in this development. There is a good video on UTube. Pros - -stable mount for long lenses -practical swinging/panning arm -good quick-release -far more practical than an -unusable in a safari vehicle- tripod Cons- -weight and bulk- on the light aircraft use on safari you are allowed 15 kg max in soft bags, including camera gear -tethers the photographer to one side of the vehicle -is fixed to the vehicle - it will sway and move as your fellow passengers jump about -transmits engine vibrations if the engine is kept running in a dangerous situation All in all, will I buy it? No - a beanbag is still the best. YouTube - Okavango Delta: Safari Rig

jaapv Posted August 17, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted August 17, 2010 Thinking it through, this rig will compound the common beginners' error of taking all shots from the same top-down perspective. The urge to get high up to get the best view is very strong. And that is the way these braces are working. The trick is to vary the perspective and get down as low as possible. My favorite spot is next to the driver. In general, to paraphrase, if your photographs suck you are not low enough.
