dear colleagues,

today I saw a used Noctilux 50mm f1,0 pre-asph lens (- i guess that's the correct name). the dealer asked for 2890 euro with 1 year warranty. i did not see any flaw. glasses front and back seemed ok. dials smooth and firm. no visible mark or damage. looked good to me... i made some shots with no problems...

based on that: is 2890 euro too much?

I think it's a post-asph (first version noctilux had asph. elements??)

sorry, off topic...

I don't know anything about used prices unfortunately. A warranty offered through Leica would be attractive...I have read about some large charges to have that particular lens adjusted out-of-warranty by Leica. I really enjoy having this lens. I think many here bought in while it was relatively inexpensive.

On the big auction site they go for around 4000USD recently after a peak last year in summer were prices were about 6000USD. Considering the warranty and that you already have tested the lens, it is a good deal, IMO.

I have paid 4100USD for my copy end of December 2007. It was the E60, third version with bayonet hood, and 6 bit coded. Had it repaired by Leica once because the front part came loose (my fault ....) and a second time on warranty because one element in the front part had become loose. Otherwise, a very fine lens but a little heavy ... ;)

oh by the way "post-asph" is not really a term, I would just call it the 1.0 Noctilux. I think there was an f/1.2 version, and then three f/1.0 versions with the same optics...am just going by memory and what I've read here (and depends what you call a "version.") The last 1.0 version has a sliding hood and I think a previous version had a hood that some prefer.

Actually, there were some more versions:

Noctilux 50/1.2 Aspherical (two aspherical surfaces)

Noctilux 50/1.0 E58 non aspherical

Noctilux 50/1.0 E60 non aspherical with bayonet hood

Noctilux 50/1.0 E60 non aspherical with clamp-on hood

Noctilux 50/1.0 E60 non aspherical with sliding hood

Noctilux 50/0.95 E60 ASPH

All 50/1.0 versions have the same optical cell in gradually changed mounts. It is said that the coating was improved over time.

Ffordes are showing one at £2699 described as 'E+' but it doesn't look like it has a hood which will be an additional cost. They are reliable dealers in my experience and will no doubt offer a fair warranty which might be worth considering as any repair work may, I assume, be expensive on a Noctilux.

this is indeed a very good price, imo. check for front and back focusing issues on the m8, that focusing is smooth across the range and that the aperture ring has positive clicks other than that, common sense prevails..

There is a slightly cheaper one on e**y (item # 370279180361). Professional seller with one year warranty. Did sell me a couple of lenses in the past. Very serious guy. His lens has no hood though.

As a man who has recently bought a second Noctilux to replace the one I sold over a year ago I can definitely agree with this comment! :o

as someone who recently bought his first, i can definitely agree with this. it's a wonderful lens and stays on my m8 70% of the time
