I ordered another D-Lux 3 about a month ago here in Boston, and it was expected to arrive at the end of October. But still no sign of the camera. The shop says they heard there is a problem in the supply line for the D-Lux 3. Has anybody heard about this? Could all the M8 trouble be overflowing into the other Leica lines?

Ordered mine online around mid-October and received it within 3 days. Obviously was lucky and probbaly one of the first buyers. Shot a few hundred pictures since and can confirm that it is a great little camera, with the manual controls, sharpness of lens and the 16:9 format being the outstanding features.

I doubt the M8 issue has anything to do with this. After all, the camera is made in Japan and only the distribution dept in Solms would have anything to do with it. Don't think the DL3 would take up any technical resources at Solms. Most probably, they just cannot meet the high demand.

Does anyone know anything concrete to the contrary?

it looks like everybody wants a black one; grab a silver one - as I did - as they are probably available in larger stock.

I ordered a silver one, and it is not available either. I was able to get a silver for my daughter in the Panasonic version without any delay. Also waiting for the Leica leather cases, of which I ordered two. None in sight either.

What is the name of the Panasonic version? I had planned to get either the little Leica or the Canon SD700 for my sister-in law. I took a few snapshots with the Leica - it is not bad and is very small. Does anyone know how the images and functions (ease of use) compare between the Leica/Panasonic and the Canon?

I picked up a D-Lux 3 from Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX. I do believe they ship. They had one black one and one silver one.. of course, I bought the black one.

Anyone interested in seeing shots from the camera can visit a small gallery I put up

D-Lux 3

I am very pleased with the camera.. just wish the noise at higher ISO settings was at least half of what it is.

Can you imagine this camera with the sensor that is in the 5D? What a killer combo that would be.

Leica D-Lux 3 vs. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Photo Gallery by koo22 at pbase.com

It's been reported that LX2's 'low' settings (contrast, saturation, edge definition) correspond to DL3's 'normal' for JPG.

Functionally I'm aware of no differences, other than the ergonomic significance of LX2's right hand side protrution of the front.

On the 4th week now waiting for my dealers in Euroland to stock up the DL3 again.

Jim,

The pictures was very good.

By the way, what's the 5D sensor?

My main camera is the Canon 5D. The 5D has probably one of the best sensors ever made and it is also a FF sensor. Noise at ISO 1600 on the 5D is amazingly low and below that it is almost non-existant.

The biggest issue for both the Panny and Leica versions of this camera (D3) is the noise. Even at ISO 400 the noise can be a problem sometimes.

I do love the camera. It is fun, easy to use, full set of controls, including full manual control.

Two things that need addressing are noise and the lack of an optical viewfinder. The LCD can be next to useless under some cirucmstances.
