braeside Posted October 20, 2009 Share #21 Posted October 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had both the Leica and the KH 1.25x magnifiers and couldn't tell the difference. If I buy an M9 I will buy another mag, though I will look closely at the the 1.25x from match technical (the chap who makes the Thumbsup) because it has a soft eyecup. I was also considering one of those, however what I dislike from looking at the photos of them, is the prominent branding in white lettering on the face of the magnifier, I am sure I would find that distracting. Same goes for the Thumbsup.
Advertisement Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Hi braeside, Take a look here hk 1.25 magnifer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ckone77 Posted October 20, 2009 Share #22 Posted October 20, 2009 I have the cheap HK version, and use it on the M7 with the 90/2 and the 50/1 to get a better focus; flawless operation, no issues.
jevidon Posted October 20, 2009 Share #23 Posted October 20, 2009 I have one and it works great. You can't see the wider frame lines, but that is not what it is for. It is useful for critical focus on 50mm and longer lenses. The optic quality is first rate and as for the lack of eyeglass protection, you can order a soft surround from DAG. It snaps in place with difficulty but it works very well and protects the eyeglasses.
viramati Posted October 20, 2009 Author Share #24 Posted October 20, 2009 got a leica one in the end as it was going v. cheap from a friend Zenfolio | David Sampson Photography http://www.dpsampson.plus.com
viramati Posted October 25, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted October 25, 2009 Lost the leica one when on camera strap!! Stupid little button that holds it on must have come undone. really annoying. In reality it is a really bad design as I think it was bound to happen, much better to have on that you have to take off and put in camera bag or pocket. am now thinking about the match technical one but it is a bit pricey. By the way the 'thumbs up' is great really improves handling ------------------- David Sampson Photography

One might also note that glass eyeglasses do not need the protection, only plastic ones scratch from my HK magnifieer. ron
karl101 Posted November 1, 2009 Share #27 Posted November 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I've just bought one of these, for use with my 90mm Summicron, and after a days use, I've found that it does help with the frame lines, however as I wear glasses the depth of the magnifier is a problem, it protrudes from the camera by about 8mm and makes it difficult to see the displayed timing information. Also because its metal I'm not so keen on it touching the glass of my glasses. With it attached I found it changed the way I held the camera, because of its depth I could no longer use my nose help balance it out. I'm half wondering if my local opticians could make me a replacement lens for it to my prescription plus the 1.25x magnification so I can use it without glasses. I'm sure that if I didn't wear glasses this attachment would be much more useful. Karl
ashrafazlan Posted November 2, 2009 Share #28 Posted November 2, 2009 Would this be useful when using a 28mm lens?
Guest mc_k Posted November 3, 2009 Share #29 Posted November 3, 2009 Ashrafazlan, I think I can focus more quickly with a magnifier. If you wear eyeglasses when you shoot, possibly there could be an issue with seeing the framelines.
