MooMooMonkey Posted October 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took some high ISO pics this weekend and I noticed in the M9 LCD screen that there is a single red pixel. And if I zoomed in and scroll around, it comes and goes. (i.e. if I scroll down once, it disappeared, but if I scroll back up, it is there. Strange ) I shot the images in uncompressed DNG and I checked it in Photoshop and I scanned the spot and everywhere but I can't find any red pixel at all. Just my guess, but could this be a hot pixel on the sensor and that Leica simply mapped it out which explained not showing on the DNG file? And perhaps that the software that control the preview is not correct and thus showing it some of the time?
Advertisement Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Hi MooMooMonkey, Take a look here Red Pixel display in M9 screen. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted October 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2009 Shoot a few shots at 2500 ISO and look for a line just below or above that hot pixel. I had that on one of my M8's and at high ISO there was a line running from the hot pixel to the bottom of the image.
luigi bertolotti Posted October 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 6, 2009 Probably related to the LCD in itself... M9 is of course under warranty...
mat_mcdermott Posted October 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2009 My M8 developed one too, which was taken care of when I got the shutter upgrade. Before that though both ACR and Aperture did a fine job mapping it out the RAW conversion. PITA though either way.
MooMooMonkey Posted October 6, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted October 6, 2009 On the LCD itself? But on the menu screen or any other display, it doesn't show that red pixel. And when you zoomed in, the pixel gets bigger. I don't think it is a dead pixel on the LCD but rather something on the CCD. And yes, on my M8, it did that and then it developed into the vertical line issue which is why it is currently being fixed in NJ (CCD replacement). It is a bit different problem as in the DNG, I see it in the M8 but not this case on the M9. Anyway, I am just a bit shock that it just happened on my M9 that quick. I will keep monitoring and yes, my M9 is still under warranty but I still want to have at least one camera for me to shoot photos with
Olsen Posted October 6, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 6, 2009 Holy Moses! This sounds very similar to the Red Line Problem of the M8. It can't be true!
Shootist Posted October 6, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Holy Moses! This sounds very similar to the Red Line Problem of the M8. It can't be true! There was already a report of a line in the sensor on a M9 the day of or the day after introduction. It was posted over at GETdpi forum. Brand new camera right out of the box. Gota love the QC over at Leica Solms.
