My new item arrived just now. It is Summicron Rigid lens. But I was disappointed see it. It has problem, like seeing from the pictures below. I would like to know what are these stains in lens and why.

...not sure what I am looking at, but if the lens does not match your legitimate expectations then I recommend you return it immediately. Unless it was sold "as is".

Where did you buy them from? If not an authorised Leica Dealer then you might have problems. Personally I would not risk purchases of such items from any other source than an Approved Dealer. It just isn't worth it

They look to me like condensation between the elements.

They could also be balsam separation, or fungal growth. Has it come from a humid country?

It would be best (if you don't want to return it for a refund) to have it CLA'd by one of the recommended repair companies. search this forum for CLA (Cleaned, Lubed and Adjusted) in your country.

Doesn't look like fungus to me - that has more of a spider's web look to it.

Was this bought from a dealer or a private sale on eBay or similar? How was the condition described? If you bought it from a dealer, and it isn't as described by him, you should be able to get a refund. If it was from someone on eBay you may still be able to get a refund but it's always possible they'll not cooperate.

Whatever, you need to act quickly otherwise the seller can claim you had the item too long before you raised any issues.

Thanks for concerns and comments.

I bought it on eBay. It was described as "Mint".

Seller said, "these stains are only dusts, no fungus or balsam separation".

Anyway, Seller accepted of shipping back.

Ah yes good old e bay! I have bought lenses off e bay sellers, and mostly had bargains, but one or two were virtually useless so bad was the condition in reality (although of course they were described as mint or at least excellent). I think sometimes they are describing the condition of the lens case rather than the glass!

At least they have agreed to take it back but you will no doubt be out of pocket for the postage each way - standard e bay practice.

Better luck next time. I saw a few older Summicrons on Red Dot's website the other day, might be worth a look for you.
