Advertisement Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Numbers? Berlin Challenge 13/10/07. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Iron Flatline Posted March 10, 2007 Share #62 Posted March 10, 2007 Quite. I know that this forum attracts a number of obvious silver spoon types but some of us live in the real world. Yes, and instead of silver spoons at birth, some of us are good at what we do and are subsequently well-compensated... Silver Spoons? Sheesh, haven't heard that since high school.... Please, tell us what the Real World looks like. I assume nothing like the one on MTV.
andybarton Posted March 31, 2007 Author Share #63 Posted March 31, 2007 Andy are proxy photographs permitted,ie you give instructions to someone who takes the photo for you? Or does one have to resort to a surveilance camera with a leica lens? Sorry, imants, I missed this one before. I really think that you need to be in the same continent as the camera to take part at the very least This reminds me of a scene from Fawlty Towers, where Basil is checking a light switch to a bathroom. The switch is outside the door, in the bedroom. The guest in the room is a very attractive Australian, who just so happens to be doing some stretching exercises with her back to the wall where the switch is. Basil reaches round, and tries the switch - unfortunately thereby trying to switch on and off the woman's nipple instead. Sybil, his wife has just walked into the room - of course. The line goes something like "Basil. If you will insist on fondling the guests, at least have the decency to stay in the same room as them" Well, it made me laugh, anyway. erl Posted April 1, 2007 Share #64 Posted April 1, 2007 Andy, I am still laughing. Just reading your post causes the entire episode to re-run in my mind. Image Cleese & Stnami in the one room! It may be a good idea to let Imants participate his way. Send me the fare Imants and I promise to make a good pic for you. Naturally, I would attribute the better pic to you and claim the lesser for myself.
carstenw Posted May 24, 2007 Share #65 Posted May 24, 2007 Is this the current thread on this topic? I am in! In fact, I am already here. I don't need a hotel room
robert_parker Posted May 27, 2007 Share #66 Posted May 27, 2007 Here's a thought... what if the Challenge was held....at night ??? We've always worked within a paradigm that a photo competition should be held during daylight hours, probably just after Midday - but here is one of the most photogenic cities after dark that you could find...... stunsworth Posted May 27, 2007 Share #67 Posted May 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert, if that was the case I think I could state my camera and lens now, no need to wait until the day :-)
andybarton Posted May 27, 2007 Author Share #68 Posted May 27, 2007 We have agreed on a place to meet for lunch, but somewhere for supper in the evening (as cheap and as good as the place in Paris last year ) would be very useful. Need some "numbers" though. 2+... ?
stunsworth Posted May 27, 2007 Share #69 Posted May 27, 2007 + 1 here. So it's the beer garden for lunch? Seems a good idea. Now all I have to do is book a hotel <grin>
spylaw4 Posted May 27, 2007 Share #70 Posted May 27, 2007 All things being equal I should be able to make it. Not keen on the night-time suggestion though.
StS Posted May 28, 2007 Share #71 Posted May 28, 2007 Sorry to join this discussion very late - how does this work out technically? Does one need to register or can I just turn up?
christoph_d Posted May 28, 2007 Share #72 Posted May 28, 2007 Hi Stefan, It's all rather informal. "Registering" here should be fine. The rules of last years challenge you'll find in the pdf file here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-member-meetings/646-one-challenge-2006-paris.html I presume it will be similar in 2007. Regards, C.

Iron Flatline Posted May 28, 2007 Share #75 Posted May 28, 2007 I'm here in Berlin, so +1. Hey, I'm unclear on 2.b. - I assume we can declare our use of tri-pods and filters AFTER having taken the shot - I get the film stock, camera, etc part, just wasn't sure about the miscellaneous materials. Yes - if you choose to use a filter at the time of taking the shot, just let the organiser know.
stunsworth Posted May 28, 2007 Share #77 Posted May 28, 2007 Hi Andy, can I make a couple of minor suggestions. A single message can't contain all the submitted images - we discussed this last year - if you want me to host the images as an album on my web site like last year let me know. I'd like to see the images displayed without any details of the equipment used. This would allow the voters to concentrate on the images rather than be possibly influenced by the equipment used to produce them. Of course the equipment could be revealed once voting had been completed and the winner chosen. I'd also like the venue for the next challenge to be decided on the day. My personal preference would be for everyone who attends to be allowed to choose a location and then we quickly vote knocking out the lowest scoring locations until we have somewhere with over 50% of the vote. Hopefully we won't descend into a Eurovision Song Contest type of situation with people voting politically <grin> To anyone who's considering taking part for the first time, remember this is a _fun_ event. I'm sure everyone will agree that we've had a great time in the previous years. One final, very important thing. I think it's my turn to get the beers in - hope too many don't turn up <grin>
andybarton Posted May 28, 2007 Author Share #78 Posted May 28, 2007 Multiple posts should be able to take more than 5 images. I'll have a word with the management I have a load of space available for a gallery if necessary, though. Nice mid grey background, I reckon... I will edit the pdf to remove the equipment bit - good idea. You getting the beers in - an even better one.
ejd Posted May 28, 2007 Share #79 Posted May 28, 2007 +1. I'm planning to be there! I've been honing my skills furiously. All the best, John
andybarton Posted May 28, 2007 Author Share #80 Posted May 28, 2007 I am going to keep a definite, 100% committed, "up for an evening meal" list to make the finding and booking of a restaurant on the 13th easier. Anyone who responds to this thread, please make it clear if this is of interest. We will try to get as good a deal as Pascal did last year, but that could be tricky...
