Advertisement Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Hi johnwolf, Take a look here Digilux 3 in stock at Amazon. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
miami91 Posted November 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2006 As does B&H. I had signed up for email notification with them several weeks ago, and received the email today. I won't be acting on it, as I already own the camera. But for anyone who's interested. Jeff.

miami91 Posted November 22, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2006 I like it a great deal. And yes, I'll probably be uploading some images this holiday weekend. I have a (nearly) full 2GB SD card, but have been so painfully busy at work, have not even downloaded them to my Mac yet. I've posted my initial comments on the camera's handling elsewhere in another thread, and there are some excellent images from a couple of users' L1s (the Panny equivalent) in a currently active thread in the digital forum, so there's some stuff you can reference. Quickly, the build quality is quite good (not quite M standard, but what is?), the camera, though large, handles well (built in grip, well designed button layouts), and high ISO performance is vastly improved over Digilux 2, owing mostly to the larger sensor as opposed to the Venus engine, I would guess. I have been mostly shooting indoors at home, almost all at ISO 800, and the results seem quite nice to me. Regards, Jeff.

skimmel Posted November 22, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 22, 2006 Stephen, See this thread: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/9216-anyone-have-d3-pictures-yet.html Cheers. Jeff. Thanks Jeff! I really appreciate the review and the link. There are some very nice pics there (including well-done pictures artistically). I've been contemplating the Digilux 3 instead of M8 (depending on what Leica comes up with for the M8). Not equivalent cameras of course but gives me a smaller digital to use for now (smaller than my Canon Mark II that is).
miami91 Posted November 22, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes. Given that I own an M7 and lenses, an M8 is almost certainly in my future. But I'm sure glad I held off given the problems encountered. I had never owned an SLR, film or digital, so I was curious about the D3 for that reason. I would not choose to carry it instead of an M, and I probably won't bother buying wide angle lenses for it if/when they are available. But I certainly like the thought of using the D3 for situations in which telephoto and/or auto-focus would be of benefit. So in that respect, I see it as a good complement to an M. I eagerly look forward to the image-stablilised 50 - 200 mm (100 to 400 mm in full frame equivalence) lens that Leica should be releasing for it in the next several months. Jeff.
