... given the low amounts trickling into the US market (allegedly 8 last week, 20 the week before).

Roey, where on earth do you get these "alleged" numbers? Aren't there more than 28 USAnians on this forum who already have M9s?

The twenty from the week before last week came from David Farkas, who I consider to be a reliable source (M9 users review coming - The GetDPI Workshop Forums).

The eight from last week came from this post http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/98807-m9-us-shipping-estimate-2.html. I am not sure how reliable the source is, that's why I used the term "alleged".

Thanks for the sources, Roey. At the moment I can't find the article I referred to in regard to Leica's attempt to get its workers to go along with the elimination of the holiday period. I recall that Spiller made the point that Leica was financially strapped and needed more help from its employees. At the time, I believe that the (a?) union was undecided whether to go along.

Definitely a story to be aware of, though I personally feel it's not directly relevant to M9 deliveries. They'll come when they come, and our protestations won't speed or delay them.

Well, there is this article from the Gießener Anzeiger, where they talk about cutting the holiday bonuses: Gießener Anzeiger - Leica-Mitarbeiter sollen das Unternehmen retten

Yes, that's the one! Thanks for hunting it down for me! Was mentioned on forum at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/96547-what-happening-leica.html#post1012277.

Ok, but that article doesn't mention that the employees would be asked to work through the holidays. It was about them being asked to forgo their holiday bonuses.

OK everyone, what are we going to do about this crisis?

I vote that we each pay Leica €2000 as a 'loyalty' payment and also agree to a 35% price increase on all products. That should provide some help at least right?

Even better, James, is that we all sign up to apprentice at Leica for the next seven years. For the first three we'll be learning Feinmechanik and getting in the way, slowing down the M9 production. By then we'll be good enough to work on the line assembling the M11.

Or maybe they'll ask us to keep our eyes glued to this forum to see if anything interesting is happening. :p

You're correct, of course. Just shoddy memory from my side. Sorry to have caused the ruckus. :o My mistake.

Leica is into a lot of things right now. If there is any sort of reduced work week going on there, management will ensure that it doesn't affect delivery of (and payment for) any high-demand item.

Relax and enjoy the anticipation. Eat the pecan pie yourself, maybe. The M9 is going to be great fun!

Later,

Clyde

Clearly dramatic action is required. I for one grabbed my beloved M8 and headed out to lake Arrowhead for a day of taking pictures with a wonderful reliable camera. as a matter of fact Im sure I will be perfectly happy with my M8 until the M9 arrives.

My dealer in Los Angeles told me that they have pre-sold more than 25 of these. clearly Leica Solms have all the interest in the world to make these cameras materialize as quickly as they possible can, both for my dealer who is looking for his cut, and for their cashflow. After all, 25 M9's represent roughly 200,000 usd.

Dear Leica, I love my M8 and look forward to my M9, please take your time and make sure its tweaked as tightly as possible before I get it.

Shortage/late delivery of parts from one of the suppliers. Don't forget that other plants are also on part-time working.

Leica most likely have to carefully balance output (hence income) vs. costs. I suspect that the demand for the M9 has possibly taken them by surprise just a little!

Massive demand which currently seems to show no sign of abating will keep them busy for quite a while, which is good.

Patience, grasshoppers!
