Max Alfy Posted October 5, 2009 Share #81 Posted October 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My f:1 Nocti #2854XXX is a first generation 58 mm, meaning I fitted it with a Heliopan UV/IR filter which gives me 120% satisfaction (no Leica 58 mm filter available). The nice thing about the M8 is that it crops most of the vignetting and softer areas, making the Nocti a super 66 mm lens. Photo @ f 1:1 and 100 % crop: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/78116-valentine-bouquet.html Just remembering I found it extravagantly expensive when I paid it 1250 € six years ago… The nice thing about the detachable hood is that it never blocked the viewfinder: it stayed in the bottom of a drawer ever since, thanks to the remarkable flare resistance of the lens. Advertisement Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Hi Max Alfy, Take a look here New and Old Noctilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peter_n Posted October 5, 2009 Share #82 Posted October 5, 2009 Any real difference from the 58/60 mm versions. Not really. The E58 means more easily available filters, the lens is slightly smaller, internet wisdom has it that the E58 vignettes a tad more (but I haven't noticed it), and the built quality might be a bit better than the more recent lenses. But then again, maybe not. Max I like your pix and love the dog's expression! My E58 is serial nr. 2919xxx and came from an estate sale pretty much unused. A CLA by DAG and it was perfect, what a great lens! I have a B+W hood and an even smaller heavystar hood for mine, there for protection only.
Jamie Roberts Posted October 5, 2009 Share #83 Posted October 5, 2009 I was going to sell my Nocti 1.0 (last version before they discontinued) but I think I'll keep it--it's still my go-to lens on film and digital when the lights are really, really low. Here's one I took recently at f1.0, mother of the bride on the dance floor. It's quite sharp too, though nothing like the ASPH Lux. I suspect the new Nocti has an even more refined sharpness, but loses some of the aberrations that the older Nocti has... Welcome, dear visitor! tom0511 Posted October 5, 2009 Share #85 Posted October 5, 2009 Thank you! Beautiful pictures! I think it will be the 0,95 for me! Åmund I agree, beautiful images. However I still believe 8000 € is a rediculous price for a 50mm lens.

GMB Posted October 5, 2009 Share #87 Posted October 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree, beautiful images. However I still believe 8000 € is a rediculous price for a 50mm lens. In particular if you consider that a good second hand Nocti F 1.0 and new Summilux 50 mm together cost significantly less!

barnack Posted October 6, 2009 Share #89 Posted October 6, 2009 Arne - Your Noct 0.95 photos are beautiful. This is a very impressive lens. I do agree with many on this forum. The Noct f/1 and Noct 0.95 are different lenses with their own unique IQ. Thanks for sharing.

docmark Posted October 12, 2009 Share #91 Posted October 12, 2009 I bought a Nocti this year for $4,600 USD, and I swear it was worth EVERY CENT!!! Now I can always get my money back, if not more, but spending $10,000 USD on a new one somehow does not make sense, especially when it has a 'Newer" look. Here, the Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 seems to be the better value for a "modern" design. The classic "Noctilux" look is eternal, and can only be achieved with the f1.0 version that was just discontinued. It will ALWAYS hold great value for what it does, much in the same way the Stradivarius does in music (it hits notes in a certain way that are unique, much in the same way the old Noctilux does, and both, may I add are hand made by master craftsman!) I have a new Noctilux. Its "look" is just fine, thanks very much. I'd have to disagree with those who say it has no spirit - not at all what I'm finding. I love shooting with this lens. hpoirot Posted November 30, 2009 Share #92 Posted November 30, 2009 I have both the F1 and F0.95. I agreed that the F0.95 seems to have los some of the boken characteristics. However, I do feel that the F0.95 is much easier to focus. DL I was amazed to watch differences of bokeh on Flickr's website pictures made with the new Noctilux 0.95: "Jev"'s pictures show the classical swirling Noctilux's bokeh while "Chachahavana"'s pictures don't show any. That means that two Noctilux Asph 0.95 lens may not have the same rendering nor the same bokeh. As I saw previously, if you are searching a swirling bokeh and the seller don't let you try before, you might be disapointed A Leica's garantee that the delivered lens will have the swirling bokeh would be fair at least ! Nikkor AIS Posted December 1, 2009 Share #93 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) You know sometimes when you wish for something for a long time and you finally get it, you're disappointed. Not so with my Noctilux 50 1.0. It's been glued to my M3 since I got it about a month ago from KEH (thanks Arthur). I love it so much. The only complaint is not having 1/8000 on my M3/M6. And I haven't been able to locate at ND 6X as of yet. So I'm making do with a 60 polarizer:rolleyes:. I have not scanned the slow negs I've taken with the Noct, but many examples are up on my SmugMug site with XP-2. Almost all were taken at 1.0. I even tested it on the M9:D. At any rate, I'm pleasantly surprised at the performance at 8 1/2-11 and have no hesitation in using the Noctilux as a normal lens. Compared to the Canon 50 1.0 AF the Noctilux 50 1.0 is petite. My only problem focusing has been in some occasions where I couldn't back up any more and the my son wouldn't move further away. If find the Lecia M rangefinders accuracy to be perfect on my M3/M6. You can get 58mm and 60mm ND filters from Foto Huppert in germany. I've some on order for my f1.0 Noctilux and have recently received some Series 7 MRC coated ones, they're very well made. Here are the catalog numbers which you can enter into the site's search engine to find them. They also have slim and silver versions. jev Posted December 1, 2009 Share #96 Posted December 1, 2009 I had number versions of Nocti 1.0 1.2, did not liked it sold it The one I have right now which i bought new very recentlly new Nocti 0.95, I just LOVE that lens well and M9. Here are couple of samples wide open, i did some processing in LR but sharpen option stayed untouched Wide open, ISO400 I could not get anything close to that with old ones. One important note, focusing is treacky, you have to pretty much breath with this lens in sync, but once you master that, it;s a real marvel
