markowich Posted September 27, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted September 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi friends, i just came back from a trip to saudi arabia (jeddah and thuwal), where i had some spare time to take the M9 + summi 24 and 58, summicron 28 for a spin. all worked flawlessly (for three days), the 41 degrees of heat were no problem. i am really pleased with the files, they show a huge latitude for PP. you can see some of the results in my LFI gallery: Â LFI Gallery - Galerie > Fotografen-Galerie > markowp7 Â as always, comments and criticism welcomed! peter

yes, i am very happy with the quality. the fact that the m9 is tiny (compared to my D3x) certainly helped that i stayed out of trouble when shooting.... peter

Delcredere Posted September 27, 2009 Share #9 Â Posted September 27, 2009 Great photos Peter, thanks. Is is possible to know from your posting which lens was used for which photo and maybe too the aperture and speed information? Sorry if this is obvious. graeme_hutton Posted September 27, 2009 Share #11  Posted September 27, 2009 What a surprise I got on LFI seeing your excellent KAUST series as myself and a couple of artists are having a pavilion built there just now. It's entitled 'Rain' and takes the form of a giant (5mX5m) water carrying vessel. Last I saw the formwork was being completed before it's covered in olive green porcelain tiles........Didn't happen to photograph it by accident did you?  Best  Graeme

doug_m Posted September 27, 2009 Share #13 Â Posted September 27, 2009 Peter, Â When using the 24 lux with the M9 did you use a UV/IR filter or not? If the answer is that you kept the UV/IR filter on, how did it do in the corners? Â If you did not use a UV/IR filter with the 24 lux, did you use a plain UV filter or no filter? If no IR filter was used did you see IR contamination? Â Thanks, Â Doug

doug_m Posted September 28, 2009 Share #15 Â Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks Peter. There is a significant amount of black clothing in some of your posted photos- do you think this might be a decent test for IR contamination with the M9? Also, did you use an external finder with the 24 lux and overall are you happy with this lens on the M9?
markowich Posted September 28, 2009 Author Share #16 Â Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks Peter. There is a significant amount of black clothing in some of your posted photos- do you think this might be a decent test for IR contamination with the M9? Also, did you use an external finder with the 24 lux and overall are you happy with this lens on the M9? Â doug, yes, come to think of it the women's clothes are all black. still i do not think that this is a test to rule out IR contamination. there are examples around which show it under artificial light, though certainly much less than with the M8. i did not use the external finder for the 24 summilux since there was not enough time for focusing and accurate image composition anyway. and yes, i am rather happy with the 24 summilux. the indoor dinner photos in the gallery were all shot with it wide open. this was one of the very few cases (in my shooting) where the 24mm f2.8 would have forced me to go to iso1600 which i find horrible on the m9. again, my personal opinion. all in all, for 95% of my shooting the 24mm f2.8 would have been the better choice. smaller, lighter, less expensive. anyway, i have the lux and will sail with it. peter
doug_m Posted September 28, 2009 Share #17 Â Posted September 28, 2009 Peter, Â Thanks again. BTW, nice photos. I have not yet tried the 24 lux much on the M9 but it sure is nice on the M8- especially at 1.4. I'll bet you made the right choice by getting it over the 2.8.
