lemalk Posted September 24, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all - I searched the forum but couldn't find anything - my M8 battery went through the wash and dryer and now it won't charge. Â When I put it in the charger, I get a green light and an intermittent amber light. Â Does anyone know if there is any hope? Any suggestions? Â Thanks in advance! diogenis Posted September 24, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted September 24, 2009 I guess you have dried the pack out or at least waited for a day near a mild heat source of say 40 degrees C. There is a chance its monitor IC located inside the pack is shorted and reports a fully charged batt pack. You might have to eventually replace the pack, but let it dry first
Shootist Posted September 24, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Buy a new battery?
Double Negative Posted September 24, 2009 Share #4 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Give it a good while to dry out and it should be fine.
Nicoleica Posted September 24, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted September 24, 2009 This brings a whole new meaning to 'Clean electricity'. Â (Sorry, I couldn't resist saying that. I do hope that your battery survived the ordeal.)
dpattinson Posted September 24, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted September 24, 2009 I guess try drying it out for a while, maybe in a jar full of silica gel... Â oh - and don't go putting your camera in your pocket.
fotoism Posted September 24, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry to hear that. Â I doubt letting it dry furhter would help - it went through the dryer already - but of course you got nothing to lose at this point to give it another try. Â Even if it "recovered" I would still get a new battery and use this one as a spare. Whether it would hold the charge and how long it will last per charge would still be in question, and it might take you a long time to find out. You don't want to live in constant fear of a battery failure.
swamiji Posted September 24, 2009 Share #8 Â Posted September 24, 2009 DONT TRUST IT.... Even if should work someday. The heat, water, etc. will cause it minimally; leak, expand, or short. Trash it! Replace it!!!
karl101 Posted September 24, 2009 Share #9 Â Posted September 24, 2009 I'd throw it away. Li-ion batteries have a history of exploding when abused. Â HowStuffWorks "Lithium-ion Battery Life and Death" Â Karl
epand56 Posted September 24, 2009 Share #10 Â Posted September 24, 2009 I have no experience in washing machining my batteries, but plunged my iPhone in the half full bathtub, just like a diver, deep in 20cm of water. Well I thought it was good for the scrap, but after two months of drying in a drawer, it got back to life and now works like new. So, there is probably hope for your battery. george_b Posted September 24, 2009 Share #11 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Dump it, not worth the hassle or the risk of it being unreliable. I did the same with the remote control of my car locks - never worked after that and got a new one. That was more expensive than a M8 battery BTW. trs Posted September 24, 2009 Share #12 Â Posted September 24, 2009 Even though many things seemed to work after wash, I guess battery would be little different because it is battery. But, iPhone working shows promise. Â I would get a new battery, but also let the washed one dry for a while and see if it will work again instead of dumping right away.
