carlosecpf Posted September 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I am departing to a one week business trip to Jordan on friday, but naturally I will have the weekends off to do some tourism. My plane arrives in Tel Aviv on Saturday and I plan to head directly to Jerusalem and stay there until tuesday morning, where I head to Jordan. During the following weekend, I will go to Petra in Jordan, but I will stay by the Dead Sea the majority of the time during the week. So the question is, which camera should I take with me? I am planning to take the D3 + 14-150mm f/3.5 + 25mm f/1.4. There will be some outdoors night events, and I believe the Summilux 25mm could provide me with some amazing shots. The zoom lens will be used to photograph ruins, landscapes religious people from a distance etc. The other option is to carry the D2 + the Lumix Wide Angle adapter. While the zoom range will be smaller, I will travel lighter. However, the D3 + 2 lenses is not that heavy. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance, Carlos

integrale Posted September 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2009 If travelling light is your concern, why not just take the D-Lux 4? If not, bring the camera that you think will fit your photo-needs better (regardless of bulk & weight). Just my 2c - of course :-) Have a nice trip! chouhsin Posted September 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2009 How about buying Kodak One-Time Use Cameras once you are there?
carlosecpf Posted September 23, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Guys, Thank you for your suggestions. Traveling light is not a concern, but flexibility is. I believe having a better zoom range to be better than "only" counting on my D-Lux 4 wide-angle capability.
integrale Posted September 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2009 I thought so - in that case I would bring the D3 with as much equipment I was willing to carry with me.
Tenor1 Posted September 23, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 23, 2009 I just returned from Greece and Italy and had the same question before leaving and suggest taking your favorite between the D2 and D3 and the DL4 along with it. Only take the DL4 if you have an external viewfinder as it is so bright outside there. My preference is the wide angle over the telephoto, but that is another question to pose on the forum. Your trip sounds fabulous, ENJOY yourself!
Tenor1 Posted September 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is another suggestion for you. Take pictures of the different foods you encounter. I like the food-mode on the DL4 very much for this.
sfage Posted September 24, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 24, 2009 I would suggest that you take everything and buy a photo backpack for that express purpose. Yes, it is going to be hot and uncomfortable. But if you don't bring everything, you won't have flexibility and you will regret that. You "will" run in to moments where you will want to do some "serious" photography. If your D3 is not there (or at very least) the D2, you're gonna pay later. If you rely on a P+S D4 looking through a screen... I promise you will be unhappy when you get home. I can guarantee that. The D4 is nice but it will never be a "serious shooter". OH!. Buy a monopod. If you know there will be days that you're too lazy to carry a tripod (and this WILL happen) then spend a 100 bucks and buy one that you KNOW you will take, without fail. If you want "critical shooting" then bite the bullet.
symmetron Posted September 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 26, 2009 I took my DL4 on a trip to France last Christmas-New Years as I wanted to travel light. Nice in photos, lightweight, but not quite "enough". It wasn't an alternative to my D300s (which weigh a ton). Could have taken my D2 but didn't mostly due to high ISO quality performance. Take D3 and DL4.
jankap Posted September 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 26, 2009 How about buying Kodak One-Time Use Cameras once you are there? Chapeau! Cell telephones are equipped with cameras in the meantime. Even with Zeiss lenses. Why should one buy something? It is time to visit Paris again. I remember a restaurant opposite of the Moulin Rouge with towers of fruits de mer. Jan
