a good user review of X1

I can't see how this is a good review. It seems the guy grabbed a pre-production model of an X1 at some Leica presentation and managed to insert his own memory card to take a few uninspired shots. Other than that, he mainly repeated what is available from the Leica website.

I'd rather wait until some of the more serious reviewers out there had the chance to investigate the real thing.

Well, yes, preview would be a better word. I wonder, though, where he got the rather strange ISO samples from. Lower ISO appears to be noisier than higher is some cases, and it does appers to be CMos type oversmoothed. I think the final output when the camera is on the shelves will be quite different.

Just curious but wonder why Leica did not choose a CCD sensor for the X1 and went for a CMOS instead. The Sony 10MP CCD sensors have been used in Nikon DSLRs with good effect.

Live View.

My D300s have CMOS. As do the D300s, D5000, D3x, D90, D700, D3, etc. It appears that Nikon has been using CCDs only in the less expensive DSLRs for the past couple of years.

A rather pedestrian "review".

I guess the "noise" samples might be interesting to some, but since we don't know how they were made or processed, who knows what the real characteristics are. As noted earlier, we'll need to wait an see the real thing.

(At least with the internet, such trivial things do not result in any trees sacrificing their lives.)
