Hi!

I’m just curious about the battery life of the m8, my so far has been able to do about 150 to 200 shots and has to 4 or 5 charge as the first charge lasted only about 100 shots what is your experience so far... thank for responding

Steve, Typically a new battery will give less life/shots than a 'worn in' one. After a series of charges/discharges it's working range will improve noticeably. I was told by the salesperson to expect about 300 shots per charge, but that is all very dependent on how much chimping you do.

Cheers,

Erl

I’m a bit disappointed about that cause I’ve had nikon d1x and canon mark II and 5d and for the price of the m8 battery I was getting somewhere 900 to 1100 shot with autofocus and all so...

do we really need to do that with lithium ion batteries?

I especially like the 5D / 20D's battery wihch are small, doesn't require charge / discharge cycles and really last very long - my experience mirrors urs, more 800 with a single charge, including loads of chimping, autofocusing with all shots and some external flash usage.

sigh, I really want a M8. But the various issues with it, the extra cost of using one - IR block filters for every lens, additional batteries.. :(

David, yes that is my belief, butI have been proven wrong before!.

Also, don't take as gospel what I said about shots per charge. My experience with M7's & 6's for example shows wide variation from camera to camera. Do you own testing seems to be the only real answer.

David, it sounds like you really don't want/need an M8. The extra cost, of course, is 'normal' I'm afraid.

An observation I made: Most of the negative comments are coming from people who have never used the camera. Most of the positive comments are coming from those who have! Does that mean anything?

I have only had mine 24hrs so am not yet qualified to pass informed judgement, but 'gut wise' it feels good. I hold hopes for workable fixes, that's all.

Cheers,

Erl

To be honest, I'm not so sure about "need" - since I already have a few cameras ranging from a DSLR to my favourite body, the M6TTL. So in the grander scheme of things, I probably don't really need another camera to complicate my life :)

But "want" -yes! I love the M6, the M lenses, the experience. I've shot with that for the past 5 years, starting with just a 35m lens and building upon it, and am very confident with the system. I'm not wedded to film, and completely comfortable with digital.

So yes, I don't NEED a m8 - for work I have DSLR systems, but it would definitely be good to have....

Now that we have that out of the way......

I know where u're coming from, but for me, the only reason why I'm not holding one now is due to the many unresolved issues with it. And I have handled the camera at a demo / launch here, posted about my experience here, and read all the reviews.

That's why my expectations are up, the anticipation level is high........

I know u just got yours, I saw ur fire pictures :)

I've to admit I'm not as hopeful as u (I have this feeling we will defnitely end up being sold the idea of mandatory filters), the winds have been taken out of my sails as far as anticipation for "workable fixes". I'm just hoping for a reliable body, with predictable performance.

i'll be checking out what Leica has to say regarding the fixes, certainly, but I'm no longer waiting with bated breath, if u know what I mean....

The manual specifically talks about conditioning the battery. I'm getting 350 frames per charge

I’m happy to hear that, do you remember how many time you’ve charged so far about??

Battery charger is really large for the size of the battery it's charging. Leica got it right for the D-Lux which is a nice size but I prefer the size of the Canon 5D design to any other charger. International adapters and auto adapter is a nice plus on the M8 charger.

I think the battery holds up fairly well. Okay i think I have 4 coming but will oonly keep 2 extra but about 300 with chimping

Guy

If you are getting four but only need two, I will be happy to take two off your hands (or even one if that is all you can give up) I desperately need another so let me know if you can sell me one or two of these puppies

Woody I certainly have one for you. I have 3 coming. i will hold it for you. I may keep 3 total . these bateries do last a good amount of time , be nice not to travel with a charger on short trips

I have 5 batteries for my RD1. Granted, it eats batteries but I could never figure out what all the ballywho was about carrying extra batteries. Takes about 10 seconds to change batteries on most cameras. What's the big deal?

Of course on the M8 you got to hold the bottom plate in your teeth so it takes 20 sec but thats part of the Leica romance

Hey if I have to shoot 1000 images to kill my batteries than I am working WAY to hard and /or not getting paid enough. ROTFLMAO. These are small batteries which is really nice. 3 is good enough for now anymore i might have to buy a 3rd bag. I just bought a 28 f2 today and starting to run out of room.
