Mauribix Posted September 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've renewed my subscription to his reviews' site, actually I've got no business with him, but I'd like to let you know that reading his review (first part) I have focused more properly my attention on the M9. Why should I buy it? What should I expect? I liked Sean's analysis of the camera, it reveals some good point to think about, it's critic as well, and not just a "fan" placebo affected review. You are supposed to complain about his reviews without having read them, picking apart his technique and analysis, while supporting a contrary position on a Leica lens you do not own and condemning the performance of a CV/Zeiss lens you have never laid hands on or seen (but have seen thumbnails on the web). Joking aside, I agree wholeheartedly. Sean's reviews are about quality not quantity. One does not need a regurgitation of specs or brochure speak, but practical reviews. Sean is vilified by certain Leicaphiles because he does not proclaim the universal superiority of Leica lenses in every case and even dares (perish the thought) that you can produce wonderful images with lowly CV lenses (in many cases). My now most used lens, which is being used for the project of a lifetime, is also my cheapest. It is also CV and it is also performing very well. I am also quite sane. When that first M9 review came out I got this great e-mail from Bo Lorentzen that said "You have no religion!" because I had illustrated the article with pictures from both Leica and non-Leica lenses. Leica lenses are great - often the best of breed - but one can also do wonderful things with other lenses on these Leica DRFs. Thanks for the comments all. He points out the things that work well and the things that could be better, and the side-by-side photos present very precise comparisons. I have read the current thread where you feel compelled to defend yourself against 'sour grapers' and decided not to add to that thread. The important thing for me is that I had access to your review on the 10th, and read it knowing that the review was not a finished article, but an on-going process [i've just read with interest your first update]. I am a customer because I trust your reviews, I use RR as an invaluable resource on [particularly] the digital M platform - and happily recommend it to others. I imagine that your are not actually Superman and now feel pretty knackered, so I hope that after some rest and recreation the strength of attack on your journalistic impartiality you currently perceive, will later appear fairly insignificant. Bo_Lorentzen Posted September 12, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 12, 2009 Mauribix, agree, Very important for me, is the fact that Sean as a confirmed Leica user will shoot a wedding using a CV Voigtlander lens. He know those lenses better than I ever will, (or want to), and he is confident enough to use the lens he sees fit for a job. regardless what box it came in. This ads a huge amount of credibility to his Leica camera and lens reviews, simply because, when he says something works, that is pretty much how it is.
