angeche Posted September 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a slow guy. It took me ages to start with film photography. After testing the cameras this summer (The leica IIIf got a problem eraly, so no chance, but I tested the Linhoff Technika and the Leica R8), I have found a powerful combination. Leica R8 and Velvia slide film. I took these shots with the Macro lens (60 mm). The images shown offer only a glimpse of the superb quality of the slides. I have found a format I do like a lot. But it is an almost private format, and very difficult to scan. You will see the acute differences in the quality of the scans. The pic with the clouds has just lost all quality. I post all because I am curious about why such quality differences when the settings of the scanner were the same. Any help or explanations welcomed. I do see the need of upgrading my scan over the next few months (I have an EPSON 350).
Advertisement Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Hi angeche, Take a look here Leica R8 and Fuji Velvia slides. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hamey Posted September 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2009 Unfortunately Scanning your images to view on a computer don't do slides any justice. Slides are the ultimate medium especially when taken with top quality slide film and lenses. If you are viewing your slides on a a Leica slide projector and the SUPER-COLORPLAN you will know What I mean, and have a GOOD LAUGH at all this Digital talk and how good it is. LONG LIVE THE TRUE ONE............SLIDE FILM. Hope you don't mind, I played around with some of your images. Ken.
angeche Posted September 12, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 12, 2009 Ken: No problem at all. And in fact you improved the pictures a lot! I see that I should devote much more time to find the correct scan settings. But, with my limited experience, I do agree with you. Slides are great! hamey Posted September 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2009 You're welcome Jose. Now for a little more information, I have been shooting slide film since 1969 with all types of slide film. For years I used Kodachrome but on occasions I also used Fuji. Personally I think the modern slide Film is great, though with Fuji Velvia I do find it very vibrant and contrasty around summer though great in winter, I tend to use different slide films throughout the year. Kodak E100G Summer Kodak E100GX Autumn,Spring and in winter Kodak E100VS or Velvia. You can also try Provia so give yourself a try to which film you prefer. I live in Australia where our light is very bright and harsh compered to Europe so experiment with film untill you find the one that suits you. Good luck with your R8, I have one too, Lovely Camera to operate. Ken.
