hammam Posted December 19, 2009 Share #41 Posted December 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The EVF for GF1 is quite usable. Not the resolution and quality of G1/GH1/EP2 EVF but still works fine giving one all the necessary info on the screen. It's small too.The best thing about GF1 thought is the latest firmare (Nov 25th release). When pressing the thumb dial you get manual focus magnification with your Leica lens. That's unavailable on G1/GH1 yet (they have index finger dials instead). I tried my 35 lux today both on M8 and GF1 and got consistently better focus (and pictures) on the GF1. Maybe that's just me and my weakening eyes. Thanks, Nugat. I tried to fin the update on Panasonic site, to no avail (NOT a very friendly site.) You wouldn't have a link to the page, by any chance? Or you, Pthurst? Thanks.

hammam Posted December 19, 2009 Share #43 Posted December 19, 2009 Joint update service for Four Thirds Cameras and Lenses The update is nice and easy too :-) Thanks, Pthurst. I had found it meanwhile, but I had to guess that «Digital AV», in Panasonic lingo, meant where you'd find their digital cameras. Now, the site is in under «maintenance» and unavailable. hammam Posted December 19, 2009 Share #44 Posted December 19, 2009 Okay, update done. The now available magnifier for MF with M lenses makes a world of a difference. But I still find it difficult to manual focus at arm's length. So, I still have to find the EVF somewhere.

diogenis Posted January 16, 2010 Share #46 Posted January 16, 2010 Guys, what is the point in using a u4/3+adapter+M lenses??? I don't get it: none will ever invest in those lenses for his dSL because of price at the first place, and if one has those lenses already for his M, why not use his M at the first place??? And another question: can someone explain to me why do I have to see 70% of the above photos out of focus? What is the real reason for it? Why miss the rest of this beautiful face???? Must admit I totally agree, one eye in focus and one out of focus looks totally strange and unnatural to me, effect for the sake of it. How can anyone estimate the quality of a camera/lens combination when there is not a great deal in focus?

How can anyone estimate the quality of a camera/lens combination when there is not a great deal in focus? It's caused by DOF, the photo was took by 1.4. not sake of it. diogenis Posted January 16, 2010 Share #49 Posted January 16, 2010 Also a panasonic GF1 coupled with a 50 summilux, not only the $$$ but the poor summilux loses all its usefulness of 50mm to make a telephoto, but fast telephoto I am thinking of going M9 to make my 50summi a decent one, but not the other way around
GFONG Posted January 16, 2010 Share #50 Posted January 16, 2010 My 2 cents: 1. When M lens used in M4/3, the focus length doubled. That's why the shallow DOF effect increased. 2. In film era, same IQ produced by using same lens in different bodies. In digital photography, we need the body and lens to provide identicial or similar image quality, It is because the way of the camera manufacturers processing the image is differently. nigelb Posted January 16, 2010 Share #51 Posted January 16, 2010 It's caused by DOF, the photo was took by 1.4. not sake of it. Of course I know its caused by DOF I simply cannot understand why anyone would take a picture of a beautiful girl showing just one eye and nothing else in focus. I suppose if that's what you wanted.......guess i'm firmly locked in documentary mode.
stkorn Posted January 17, 2010 Share #52 Posted January 17, 2010 I think he was saying that he had to shoot at 1.4 and therefore live with the very shallow d.o.f.

My point is, if any M user consider to have a backup machine, GF1 should be is a good candidate, you can enjoy it's new function, in the same time, you can use your M glass if you want. It's only a true backup if you want most of your M lenses to be telephoto or if you own some very extra wide lenses... and then, if you can afford those lenses, I would imagine you can afford another M. Of course, there is always Voigtlander.
