I would place them, from best to worst, pic3, pic1, pic2, ie. according to your list: D200, 5D, M8. That would jive with the lower depth of field for the only FF sensor, and would also match the stronger reds in the first and third images, knowing that the weak point of the 5D is the colour saturation. The first one looks like it is losing a little in the shadows, which looks more Nikon to me. Okay, my final guess is D200, 5D, M8, but I still think that this kind of test should be done with many more pics, and also possibly with crops. And in order of what is the best file is Leica, Nikon and canon . Watch the back gargage door , look who is blowing out and than look how has the best range , the best range is the leica . markowich Posted November 19, 2006 Share #46 Posted November 19, 2006 our tests with the M8 and the D200, using the best nikon primes (85mm f1,4 and 50mm f1.4) showed no significant difference of the results in 100% on screen viewing. dynamical range (very difficult to measure) was hard to distinguish, with a slight edge to the D200 (D2x looses out a bit on this).i do not know about prints, but i suspect that you cannot tell the prints apart at any size. peter Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

These were all exposed the same, 2.8 aperature for all, focus was the curve line on the side mirror, all were processed in C1, WB was set to the same for all images, crops were done on the Canon & Leica shots to approximate the same FOV as the Nikon. My favorites were in this order 3, 1, 2. The hints were: tonal range and highlights. I think that the M8 handled those the best and it was the third photo. What surprised me the most was that I prefer the Nikon with Zeiss glass over the 5D. I rented the 5D and 24-70L this weekend to shoot in comparison with M8 and the D200, while Tony Rose sent me the Zeiss glass for the Nikon at the same time. All three cameras got a work out at the "Good Guys" hot rod & custom show. Form factor & use this weekend in order: M8, D200 (Zeiss), 5D. Sharpness, DR : M8, D200 (Zeiss), 5D Texture, "filmlike", 3D : M8, 5D, D200 (Zeiss) Noise : 5D, M8, D200 (Zeiss) Just my casual rankings over the weekend and using a max ISO of 640. The photos were displayed as follows: 1) D200 with Zeiss 50 1.4 at 2.8 2) Canon 5D with 24-70L 2.8 at 2.8 3) M8 with 50 1.4 ASPH at 2.8 Best, Ray Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

At least that was my experience when I sold 3 of my 4 Canon lenses and picked up 6 Leicas. That would mean better sharpness and colours, putting all three cameras closer together again. Still, I love the natural-looking sharpness of the Leica. There is something about the D200's edges that I don't like, and the shadow detail looks weak in many images I see. I am frustrated by the 5D's colours, which apart from size and weight is one reason I am selling it. Overall, these three cameras are really close, and I think that other factors would make the choice clear. Size, weight, sharpness: Leica. High ISO, full-frame sensor, resolution: 5D. Nikon: handling. A great camera, but I think it is outclassed by the other two. It is much cheaper though. These three cameras are probably in the top 5 in the world, in the DSLR/RF market. Actually, for me the burning question from this kind of thing/online 'test' is: is the 5D a total bargain, or is it really worth selling to pay twice as much for the M8? This area showed more shadow detail than the other two. I wasn't confident enought to post it though. Ray, you need some colour in your test shots to really show off the Leica look. I'm quite surpirsed by how half-decently the 24-70 lens holds up. It's a decent workhorse, but how about trying a prime or a Zeiss/Leica lens on the 5D?
