hexar Posted September 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2009 is there any sort of parallax correction in the finder ? (or third party available)
nhabedi Posted September 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2009 the misplaced strap lugs Why is everybody so sure that the strap lugs are misplaced without even having seen the X1 in real life? Can't you give the people at Solms the benefit of doubt and assume that they didn't put them in some random position just for kicks?
daveleo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2009 nhabedi ..... my comments are based on my Bessa-T's which have strap lugs in the same location. they are far forward of the c.g. unless there is a large (or extended) lens. i am imagining the x1 on my shoulder with the lens collapsed and the same thing happening. that's my guess .... always ready to be corrected by the facts..... (is the collapsed X1 lens heavy enough to move the c.g forward? .... i don't know) in any case, it's not a show stopper for me.
daveleo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) hexar ...... there is no parallax correction in the cosina-voitlander unit that i have. i am expecting to "guess-and-correct" any close-in shots, but most probably just shoot wide and crop later if need be..... or use the LCD for really close work. hexar Posted September 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2009 thanks daveleo, do you have an opinion about retracting lens re sturdyness and dust entry ?
nhabedi Posted September 10, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2009 Here it is, the X1 you really wanted! While the X1 is pretty beautiful IMHO, this one is an ugly duck. Yes, I'd love to have an OVF integrated into the X1. No, I wouldn't want you to design cameras...

No, I wouldn't want you to design cameras... yeah, I did that in 10mins on photoshop, but of course a camera should look nice rather than be a functional tool. daveleo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 10, 2009 thanks daveleo,do you have an opinion about retracting lens re sturdyness and dust entry ? hexar ..... i have an opinion about EVERYTHING ;>)) but, truly, my "opinion" on the auto-collapsing lenses is based on using my little panasonic fx-30, and my life spent in structural design ...... moving parts in and out at every startup has got to wear something out, plus the strength and rigidity of the tubes cannot be equal to a fixed tube, AND eat up battery life, and whatever dust collects on the barrel while its out you then drag inside the camera closer to the sensor. however .... my fx-30 is still working fine and is always in my pocket. stunsworth Posted September 10, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2009 ...they are far forward of the c.g. unless there is a large (or extended) lens. I believe the lens extends.
daveleo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 10, 2009 i think earleygallery's mockup is just fine ..... AND it got me re-thinking about my X1 feelings and now i kinda think i'll buy one and stick a viewfinder on it.
earleygallery Posted September 10, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted September 10, 2009 I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Didn't expect you to be so emotionally attached to your mock-up... I'm not emotionally attached to much material stuff and certainly not a 10min PS montage! No hard feelings, I agree it ain't so pretty but you get the idea. My lllf, that's a pretty camera. wda Posted September 10, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 10, 2009 I think the X3 will have the 'goodies' for which some people crave! Maybe at a future Photokina.
hexar Posted September 11, 2009 Share #20 Posted September 11, 2009 does anyone know (daveleo ?) why Leica will not have opted for a 24mm pancake design on the lens ? As I do not have any experience with a OVF from Leica. Can you use the lines in the viewer to get a clue of you keep your camera fully straight. I hate correcting non straight foto`s in post processing as pixels get damaged and/or lost. The digital leveler in the RICOH series is a fantastic feature in my opinion. (no such in the X1 I assume ?)
