thompsonkirk Posted September 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry to have to ask so naive a question, but what's a Webcast? I've got a couple of e-mails from Leica about theirs, one saying I should register - which I did - and another urging me not to miss such a thrilling event tomorrow. But there's no link or URL for watching it. Just go to their website? Neither my partner nor I are Webcast-savvy. She usually makes our media things work, but she hasn't witnessed so significant an event before, either. Are PDT folks supposed to get up & have our coffee before 6? (Sorry, Leica, but it was kind of you to invite us.) Or do Webcasts stay posted thereafter? Kirk (I hope we're more competent with cameras than with the Internet.) There should be a link in the email to click for registration, otherwise here it is: Leica Camera AG At the appointed time, just log on, sit back and enjoy a live telecast on the web site (hence, webcast). Bo_Lorentzen Posted September 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 9, 2009 Nobody knows yet... Im trying to record it (screen capture) Chances are leica will post it to their Vimeo account, where they posted the teaser. .

michali Posted September 9, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 9, 2009 From the official Leica newsletter: Explorer 6+ or Firefox 2.0+ as your browser - Safari is not supported Andy- I'm also on Safari and been trying to register, it comes up with a blank video screen with "buffering" flashing. I downloaded Firefox, Bo's right it takes a few minutes, and tried registering again. This time the video screen came up flashing "buffering" again but after a few seconds it then confirms that I've successfully registered. Safari never did this, I guess it's definitely not supported. Bo_Lorentzen Posted September 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 9, 2009 Andy - "that's just wrong" meaning, I feel it is a bad choice by leica not to support Safari. .

andybarton Posted September 9, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 9, 2009 I also registered successfully using Safari, but I will wait until 2pm to see whether the video comes through OK using the browser. The earlier teaser video certainly did via vimeo and YouTube, of course.

andybarton Posted September 9, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 9, 2009 You will not be able to watch it in Twitter. The Twitter icon is so that you can "tweet" this information.
ianman Posted September 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 9, 2009 I'm disappointed that the webcast is not available to Safari users. I'd like to know why. AFAIK there is no reason why we couldn't watch a flash webcast in Safari. Maybe they just didn't test it and therefore prefer to announce it as "unsupported". Marquinius Posted September 9, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 9, 2009 I sure am glad somebody pointed out all this stuff about webcasts: heard about it, but somehow never found the enthusiasm/time/energy to look further into it. As I'm not going to do now, either. I'll read about all the Leica news in this forum. More fun too, with all the comments and wild guesses
plasticman Posted September 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 9, 2009 Rather amateurishly the Flash version checker doesn't recognize my v10 debug player. I'll probably be out when the webcast is live anyway. Enjoy yourselves - I'll read all about the 'surprises' later.
efftee Posted September 9, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 9, 2009 I'm disappointed that the webcast is not available to Safari users. I'd like to know why. Gasp! I'm on Safari, registered alright without that message. Well, I do have Firefox too so thanks for the heads-up in case this is true.
