skimmel Posted September 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry if this was posted already, but Michael Reichmann at Luminous Landscape posted this today: "There's an exciting week coming up with new product announcements and a number of new product reviews. In fact the next few weeks are going to be chock-a-block with new cameras and reviews. I am currently working on my Canon 7D field report and have six other new camera reviews scheduled for publication in the coming days, so come back often. The fun starts on Wednesday." My guess is the Wed review is the M9. Wonder what the entire group of "six other new camera reviews" are coming up?
Advertisement Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Hi skimmel, Take a look here Michael Reichmann Leica Review?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest New2LeicaRF Posted September 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2009 no surprise. no big news. but he should do the testing properly this time and not mix up six cameras:D and not supress any information like last time. i trust more general members, their experience and samples, rather than these "experts"
sdai Posted September 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2009 i trust more general members, their experience and samples, rather than these "experts" Exactly ... if you've spent the past 2 years or so on this board, you'd know whom to trust. After all, it's your money and your decision.
hofrench Posted September 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2009 Reichmann's gushing and craven promotion of the M8, and his failure to detect or mention the very serious issues posed by that camera invite serious skepticism. What's equally problematic is the alternately tortuous and indignant, post-facto rationalization used to try to restore credibility. The M9 may very well be the greatest thing in digital photography, and I certainly hope for a success, but I'll be looking for a straight appraisal elsewhere. Gentleman Villain Posted September 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2009 I like Michael Reichmann and am looking forward to reading any of his reviews and opinions

Sean Reid is probably going to have the best take on it.

bebert Posted September 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2009 Yes. I trust Sean's approach in reviewing the M9. Me too! Sean's approach is a mix of in depth and rigourous analysis of strengh and weaknesses of a new product which he will test during months (some times years, often coming back to his first impression). I also love his pics which are most time talking about people and real life. In my opinion, MR's style is quite the opposite: the bigger, the heavier, the most expensive, the newer, the better. Michael is a landscape shooter and I am not so sure that his way of seing photography is really in line with M's spirit. By the way, I was not convinced by his review of the M8 (and I am not sure that MR kept and used his M8 more than a couple of weeks). But I will of course carrefully go through his analysis of the M9 if any (and I hope he will tell us more than the usual : M9 is superior to the M8 and reaches the top class level of the digital world...). batmobile Posted September 8, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 8, 2009 Word! Sean Reid is probably going to have the best take on it. I agree. Sean Reid's reviews reflect common sense from a user not a techno poseur or brand fetishist. He might use a M8 and I might use 35mm film, but his reviews have been smack on for every bit of kit I have owned that he has reviewed. From sample variation (CV 21s) to Biogon edge performance, to the CV 35 Skopar, everything has performed pretty well as expected, having read his reviews. Now that is what a review is for
Samir Jahjah Posted September 8, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 8, 2009 i trust more general members, their experience and samples, rather than these "experts" ...and their ability to help other members find solution! I can't wait to see the outcome of the first few weeks of use. That being said, I can't believe Leica would mess up the way they did with the M8! batmobile Posted September 8, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 8, 2009 ...i trust more general members, their experience and samples, rather than these "experts" I trust some reviewers and some members. Lets not pretend there is not an awful lot of rubbish talked by members of forums. Sometimes I wince at the untruths I read, the posturing, and those who are generally terrible image makers but equipment megalomaniacs offering advice on 'lenses for XYZ'! As with everything, surely the trick is deciding whose opinions you know to be solid and will therefore trust in future. As usual, it is horses for courses and so hearing the opinion of 100 kit pampering Leicaphiles who say the M9 is the best since sliced bread won't count as much for me as a couple of people who have used in in applications more relevant to me. Again, Sean Reid is pretty sharp when it comes to picking up real operational/hands on/in the field/under pressure type issues.
geoffreyg Posted September 8, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 8, 2009 Another vote for Sean - his review of the CV 40 led to a relook at the images I had from that lens, and he was right on (not so good in OOF). Same with his pro/con on the M8. Honest and steady and not commercial - just what you want. Geoff
jplomley Posted September 8, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 8, 2009 I signed up for RR about a month ago realizing the M9 and other potentially new RF related products were on the horizon. The existing content on the site is excellent, and I anticipate the new reviews will be equally impressive. Many thanks Sean for this terrific service.
