arthurpreston Posted September 7, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have gotten the message "Attention: SD card is locked" on a couple of occasions, with a 4 GB SD card in my M8 (the same card on both occasions). The first time (about a week ago), I put the card in a card reader, and deleted all folders using my PC, then reformatted the card in the M8. I didn't have a problem again until yesterday, when it happened again, but I had not removed the card prior to turning off the camera this time. Once I got home, the message did not pop up in the M8, and all was well. Still scary, after taking about 150 photos that I did not want to lose. I'm wondering (and hoping) that this is a problem only with this particular SD card, and that I shoiuld just toss it and not chance any real problems. I always transfer photos to my PC using a card reader and never via the camera directly to the PC. I do remember one time I removed the card prior to switching off the camera while out on a shoot.. Â Have any of you had a similar problem, and was it the SD card only? Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

Sandokan Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted September 7, 2009 There is a physical switch on the side of the SD card - maybe this is loose and sometimes in the "lock" position?
EricC Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted September 7, 2009 I had this problem with one card where the switch was quite loose. Â I superglued it in the "unlocked" position and it has worked perfectly since. Â I did wait for 24 hours before putting the card back into the M8 just to make sure that the glue was set and there were no fumes.
arthurpreston Posted September 7, 2009 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Happened again this morning - I did check the "switch", and it has not moved since i first used the card, so the event is quite random. I'm just glad it's not the camera, and the sdhc card is going in the trash as soon as I hang up here.
barnack Posted September 7, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted September 7, 2009 I had this problem and contacted Leica. They told me to lightly blow air on the contacts inside the camera. I did this and the message did not appear and the camera functioned as normal.
