Advertisement Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi JBC, Take a look here brand new m8 doest not work. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kalina Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2009 Try a different SD card. Perhaps there is a problem with the compatibility of the SD card to your M8.
Shootist Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2009 Are you using a SDHC card??? Is the camera updated to the version 2.x firmware???? If you are using a SDHC card and the camera is not updated to the version 2.x firmware that is the problem. Get a standard 1 or 2 GB SD (NOT SDHC) card, load the newest version 2.x firmware (It can be downloaded from any of the Leica sites) and follow the directions to the letter to update the camera. JBC Posted September 7, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 7, 2009 Thanks for answering. I have an SanDisk Extreme III, SDHC 4gb. (I have 2 of them, and neither work) In the menu display, the last part after "format SD-card", says "firmware 1.110" so I really hope that it is an SDHC card problem. Tomorrow I will buy an SD 2gb card, and try again. thanks JBC

Once you have the new SD card (not SDHC) dowload the latest firmware from Leica and follow the instructions carefully to update your camera. Once you have the new firmware installed, you can put the SDHC cards in and format them in the camera. They will work fine.
johnbuckley Posted September 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 7, 2009 JBC - current firmware is 2.004. If you go to the Leica site, under the M8 there's a section called Downloads. Should be able to find the current firmware there. If you have any trouble getting it from the site to your camera, there have been a number of threads in this forum that will give you good directions. Best of luck. It's not the camera. adan Posted September 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Omigod - they were RIGHT!! As soon as the M9 came out, all our M8s became obsolete and stopped working!! (Sorry, JBC - couldn't resist playing off your headline. I think the firmware upgrade will get you up and running). ger1g0 Posted September 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 7, 2009 JBC I had the very same problem when I got my camera at the beginning of the year. Don't worry, its the SDHC card. If you can find a regular SD card, which incidentally is very difficult to find these days, you can use without any problems. Otherwise upgrade your camera software to the new version and everything will be resolved. Don't try to reformat the SDHC card. Your camera will heat up and use up all the power in the battery and nothing will happen.
jaapv Posted September 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2009 Fortunately SD cards are not that hard tyo find. Many appliances still use them. The trick is to look in more general stores,

Following the instructions to the letter including step 6 which is in bold type. Jeff
noah_addis Posted September 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 7, 2009 I use those same 4gb cards and have never had a problem. Should work fine once you get the new firmware.
