I don't think you'll get an unbiased report on IQ on Wed; any sample pics released would likely be taken under ideal conditions. rfleica Posted September 6, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 6, 2009 i think there are many bloggers who are reviewing the m9 right now under nda. i expect their reviews to come out shortly after the announcement. if my guess is right, i know some of these guys to be fair and detailed in their reviews. so, i reckon we will get a good idea about iq soon. i also think reviews will be particularly careful after the m8 reviews fiasco. I've pasted some text from Reidreviews below - I assume that he's had samples for long enough to have prepared reviews. We'll probably learn a great deal about the new cameras from Reid. A major question that I have, for example, is how do various lenses stack up in terms of corner resolution and vignetting in the 24x36 format? The quote from Reid: "An article about a very interesting new camera will appear here on September 9 followed by an extensive review of an exciting new camera on September 10 and a "First Impressions" review of yet another new camera also on September 10. Check back then for some interesting reading." There is a lot of space between "very interesting" and "exciting" - I wonder which one is which. I'm not sure what fiasco you're thinking of other than the fact that some of us did not see the IR color shift at first. It was present in several of the examples I published in my first review of M8 image quality but I didn't initially recognize it for what it was. I think Tom, Ed and others had the same experience. As most know, I updated my reviews with information about the IR problem a few days after they were published (and after the problem was discovered here on this forum). That was long before most reviews of the M8 were published at all. Just keepin' the record straight since the legends about this sometimes seem to outpace the facts. rfleica Posted September 6, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 6, 2009 all understood and fair enough. i am well aware of your reviews and reports and the chronology. fiasco too strong a word maybe. but i still recall that most of the initial flaws (banding, ir etc) were not published initially anywhere until forum users did so. could be false memory tho. i respect your work sean, always have. but my modified behaviour, given the previous m8 review "scenario" will now be to wait for more info over more users with more samples and examples. we all have different confidence levels in data and sources i suppose. I always look at various sources as well. I did report light banding at ISO 2500 in the first review. Feel free to re-read it if you'd like to confirm. But thousands of people looking at the same camera will always provide a richer data set than any one person. Some of that comes down to where one is working, under what kinds of lighting, which subjects, etc. No one review can ever be an exhaustive summary of any camera or lens as I'm sure you'd agree. Saves on marketing monies all over the world. Apple are bringing out an iPod with pre-loaded Beatles tracks and in-built 24mp full-frame camera with Leica optics. True.
