Did Leica replace my shutter without telling me and at no charge???

Expecting eventually I will get a M9, I decided to check out my very early M8 anticipating to put it on eBay sometime. (I plan to keep my M8.2.) So I used PhotoMe to see the shutter actuations (image unique ID). To my surprise it is only 300+. It should be way over 10k. Further checking showed that the count reset earlier this year after it came back from NJ for service for a power-up problem. While it was in NJ I bought a M8.2. Upon its return, I was surprised to find the shutter was almost as quiet as the M8.2. So I thought Leica must have adjusted the rest of the camera to spec while fixing the electronics, all at no charge even though the camera was out of warranty.

So today, after I discovered the low image ID I thought at first this must be the result of replacing some electronic parts that necessitated the resetting of the count. Then I remembered that last year I was worried about a mark on the shutter while many on the forum were questioning the durability of the original shutter. Guess what, that mark is no longer there, and the shutter really looks brand new. Did Leica replace the shutter in an out-of-warranty M8? In any case, they certainly went over and above in customer service as far as I am concerned.

Alan,

Replacing the shutter won't reset the internat counter (image unique ID) but replacing electronics can reset it. In fact, the image ID counter is not in the shutter itself but on the motherboard. They probably replaced both.
