This is amazing.

1 If anyone bought it however who would fit it? I cannot believe that Leica Solms would fit it and when such a thing is fitted presumably it would be normal to service and callibrate other parts of the camera?

2 I am really trying also to understand why people that have an M8 would want this so called upgrade..it does not give 1/8000, which I actually find myself using with high speed lenses, which is a Leica strength. I believe that it is quieter, but I do not find the M8 particularly noisy and with the latest firmware noise is less of an issue anyway.

It is quieter, no doubt about that. Many of us found 1/1000 adequate in the film days, if 1/4000 isn't fast enough people can always use ND filters.

I accept your point and believe me I also was OK with 1/1000 and I typically used this with 25 ASA film and max 64 ASA......The lowest ISO on the M8 is however 160 and personally I think that is on the high side...if we could have a much lower ISO number I guess the problem would be less.

I also today find myself using f1.4 Summilux lenses more than f2.8 Elmarit or f2 Summicron that I used primarily before and I think that is a trend for many of us

In my case I would need several different size ND filters to cover the range of lenses that I actually use.

I agree in principle with your comment however and in fact I never thought I would EVER need even 1/4000 when I bought my M8.

That said I see that I regularly have used 1/8000 this summer. If I had to look at the most used combination of aperture and speed it would probably be f4 with 1/2000 at ISO 160 and that is not giving much latitude with 1/4000.

I would add that the Noctilux (I have the old one) has increasingly become a standard lens for many of the shots that I take ....as has the Summilux and I like to use these very fast lenses fairly wide open.

Which given that 1/4000 is two stops faster than 1/1000 means that you can use the same f stop with the M8 at ISO 160 as you could with a film M at ISO 40.
