9 products for the 9/9/9 event?

We're all running around as chickens without head about this M9. But what else. No one seem to have studied the S2 in the video to see what's in it or if it might have an R bayonet.

I'm thinking, why not 9 products:

New M9

New S2 with four lenses

That's 6 products. So that leaves 3 open spaces if there's 9 products released:

New C-Lux (the existing one has been discounted for months)

New Digilux 4 / CL / R-compatible product

S2 Baby?

New 35mm Summilux-M..?

It's given that Leica will introduce something in the low end of the scale. They state that clearly. So that could be a C-Lux camera. D-Lux 4 doesn't need replacement yet. Not that I really care about C-Lux, except if they made it with a f/2.0 lens and viewfinder.

And then there's the gap Kaufmann has spoken about, which is the Digilux 4 / CL.

And finally there's the promised R solution where I'm totally blank. I have no idea whatsoever what that might be. I would hope a re-introduction of the DMR with new sensor-technology, but that's unlikely with the demise of the R9.

Digilux 4, if and when it arrives, should stay with the same 28-90/f. 2.0-2.4 zoom and the sensor size to accommodate that specific lens. But I can't help thinking bayonet on a Digilux 4, thought M and R lenses would be a huge crop factor. So it would have to be a new lens system.

A CL could also be a Leica/Panasonic camera that takes M lenses, though in my opinion there wouldn't be that much sale of M lenses in a consumer camera. The whole idea with a CL camera would be to introduce new users to M photography, not yet a camera for existing owners of M lenses to have.

LOL.. Torsten,

Somebody had to come up with this. the scary thing is the "could" be feasible, though maybe a stretch.

While Im saving my money for the M9, I do secretly hope for a CLD, which is my opinion would perfectly fine be a re-branded and licaized oly pen style camera, taking m43 lenses and optional M lenses. it would be significantly cheaper, and history seems to say that once people start messing with one leica product, they tend to want more. It did strike me as unusual that they chose the 35 Lux as the lens on the camera in that teaser movie. Generally they seem to prefer the 50 Lux for show purposes.

It occurs to me that they may well be releasing a new 35 Lux as well :)

The sunshade seems to be a little different, but I am not sure. The lens is just like the current one.

Maybe some Leica RAW Software for the S2

No, they already stated it will ship with Adobe Lightroom 2.

In my opinion, the game is long over for small players making RAW and workflow software. It's the game for big players like Apple and Adobe. Look how difficult it is for Hasselblad Phocus and Capture One following with software that can both convert RAW and manage workflow of storage, keywords, output, slideshows, websites, etc.

Leica should concentrate on helping artists handling light (glass and simple no nonsense operating cameras)

Apple is holing a media event also on 9/9/9, so maybe there's a Leica-iPod on the way :D

Now... seriously... anywhere a thought about RED-Leica collaborating in the future?

RED seems a little dead. Can't figure it out but I sense Canon and others are working on capturing that market. At least I haven't seen or heard anything about RED for a long time, and I seem to remember their dSLR should have been ready for launch about now.

the whole art is to develop Leica gear that leads onto the next. M does that (leads onto the next M, more M cameras, more M lenses), but the entry level to M is missing. The Digilux 2 leads people into becoming M shooters to some degree. I don't know about this pen thing, the pictures I've seen so far haven't been impressing. Wonder what the crop factor for M lenses would be on a pen-size camera. But then again, most M lenses (or all) will cost more than a camera would. And then it would probably be exiting M users buying one for compact travel, kids, fun and mistresses ;-)

Would be nice if Leica could stay away from new lens lines other than M, R and S.

Thosten I think these predictions are good. I must strongly disagree with you about the PEN though. I used one for 2 days found the pictures to be fantastic. The crop factor for M lenses on a PEN is 2x so this is probably not the best sensor size for M users wishing to use their lenses. I am pretty psyched to see the M9 though.

I'd like to see a full frame M9 like a lot of others, but will it be able to compete with the high ISO performance of the 5DII and the newly announced Canon 7D, I doubt it...........and the cost of the new Canon 7D is rumoured to be in the region of £1700??? will it even be close .........

There's also a video game coming out about The Beatles on 09/09/2009. "Leica In The Sky With Diamonds?"

Thorsten, what do you think they will do for the R lenses?

I have no idea. My worst fear is some cropped solution like they promoted the Digilux 3 as a great way to 2x the 200mm/2 to a 400mm/2 lens. I fear they will provide such a half solution of some kind, eventual via an adapter.

But the only real solution is an R camera built from the R9 or a Baby S2 made for R glasses. Or a surprising release of Nikon AF lenses made by Leica so one can move to Nikon D3x.

If you look at what the R glass is capable of, nothing less than DMR would do. It would have to be a real camera.
