I have herd so much about the DL4 I am wondering if anyone has done a comparison with the D2. The resolution is double in the dl4 sensor but how can the lens compare? I would rather travel with a smaller camera but not at the expense of quality .Also what is the best adapter to get wide angle shots from dl4.

While I haven´t run a full-fledged scientific comparison, I´ve made pictures in parallel on several occasions with these 2 cameras, just to obtain an answer to this.

Without doubt, the D2 lens is better: more even sharpness all the way to the corners, less purple fringing & c. Making a direct comparison is complicated by the difference in resolution (just comparing both at 1:1 screen resolution is of course meaningless), but shown filling a 30" Cinema Display, or in a pair of equally large prints, D2 IQ wins the day.

That said, both cameras are way above "average" IQ for small sensor cameras, and I don´t hesitate using the DL4 whenever it suits the situation better. It´s far more compact, it is faster in AF and file writing time, and it has far better close-up capabilities. But the D2 remains unique; nothing can make me let it go....

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the insight .I was at an art fair last weekend and the D2 .Was just to large so I will add the Dlux 4 as everyone seems to love it. Amazon has a decent price but none in stock anywhere .I do not want an ebay no warranty camera so I hope they are back in stock soon. Any ideas when more will hit the market? Also would like to know whoch wideangle lens filter will work especially with the 19: 9 setting?
