unikad Posted August 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I would need help about the Leitz Elmarit-R filters sizes. I have Elmarit-R 90/2.8 and it has a very untypical filter size - some 54 mm in diameter. But all filter sizes are made in 55 mm. Does anything exist to solve this problem? Some special leica-made adaptor or anything like that? Thank you very much for you help.

Philippe D. Posted August 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2009 Hi, I have Elmarit-R 90/2.8 and it has a very untypical filter size - some 54 mm in diameter. But all filter sizes are made in 55 mm. Does anything exist to solve this problem? Look for "Serie" filter with ring adapter. Maybe serie VIII (8) for this lens ? Those filters doesn't have thread and fits in the hood.
ejd Posted August 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2009 According to Jonathan Eastland's book (the Leica R Compendium) the earlier version of the 90 mm Elmarit-R with product code 11239 (and maybe also 11229) produced between 1964 and 1983 takes a Series 7 filter, and Leica made an adapter for it (14161) with a 54 mm thread. (They also made an adapter with a 55 mm thread -- product code 14225.) You can sometimes find these things second hand at camera shops and fairs and on e-bay. (Edit: BTW, www.peterloy.com are currently advertsing a series 7 retaining ring (14161) for £5. They don't appear to have a series 7 filter right now. But www.ffordes.com has dark red and red/orange series 7 filters.)
doubice Posted August 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2009 The early 90mm Elmarit-R used Series VII filters. Series filters have no thread and are held in place by a screw-in adapter. Presumably your Elmarit-R came with this adapter - if it did, look for Series VII filters. If it did not, look for a 54mm to 55mm step-up ring. unikad Posted September 1, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 1, 2009 Hello, thank you all for your advices. I have already sorted that out. I wanted to place a filter onto my Elmarit-R 90/2.8 that was why I was looking for some adaptor. Nevertheless I found that Cokin had 54mm adaptor ring to its filters therefore everything is alright now:)
