28 cron focus problem

Does anyone else have this problem with a 28mm Summicron? At close focus (around 1m), the focus shifts forward about 30-40mm. I sent it in for repair, and it came back the same. I got a replacement lens and it was the same. I checked another one at the dealer and it was the same as well. I tried mine on a friends M8 body and the same thing. My 50mm lux has no shift on my camera body, so I don't think it's the rangefinder, either. Any ideas?

kitswartz,

I had exactly the same problem (after the front part of the lens had to be fixed a second time at Solms -it came apart from the rear part). I sent it back to Solms and came back perfect.

I enclosed with the lens a couple of pictures of a focus test on a focus chart. No problems since then.

My 28 Summicron has always focused well.

I had it fixed a few months ago for the loose front problem. I realized the other day that I hadn't really used it much since it was repaired, so I figured I'd shoot some tests.

With all of this full-frame talk going around I figured I'd better check it out, since it will be more often used if we get a FF digital camera. It focused perfectly on my M8 and an M8.2 loaner at all distances.

It does sound to me like the lens needs adjusting.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I guess I'll have to send it in.....again. I also had the loose front problem. I've barely had it back, and now it's off again to the shop. That pretty much typifies my experience with M8 products. Very frustrating, but thanks for everyone's help. Kit

Oddly the 28 is the only Leica lens I have which has displayed this problem (not I'm touching wood as I write!)...
