Neoprene Case for M2

If you mean the Neoprene cases made for the M8, they are an inexpensive way of protecting your camera when it might come into contact with other stuff, like in a weekend bag. There are two sizes and I tend to use the larger one so that it doesn't matter which lens I take with me. If you have an M2, you might find the smaller one fine.

It's not much to look at, of course, but that's not its purpose and it is far and away the least expensive way of protecting the camera, though I don't think it offers any protection against the camera being dropped.

I have no evidence to back this up but I would have thought the number of people who use a "never-ready-case" these days is small.

I agree. The Neoprene Case is OK for protection in a backpack, for instance. Its great disadvantage is that the loop to go around the carrying strap is attached at the wrong end, so when you hold the camera normally for vertical pictures 'right hand high', it tends to flap in front of the lens. For me, this is a transport wrapper and nothing else. Don't attach it.

But with the weather vulnerability of the M8 I use a ERC always when I carry just the camera, which is often the case, and the weather looks the least bit dubious, which is also often the case. My M8 has a Crescenzi full case, a bespoke model where the front is permanently attached in the classical manner. It is never in the way because the non-focusing fingers of the left hand automatically keep it under control.

In other situations, it is half-cases both for the M8 and my M4. When using a day backpack, I keep the other lens(es) in soft pouches and hard objects in outer pockets. What price peace of mind? You should care about taking pictures, not about coddling your camera.

Has anyone got a Leica Neoprene case? Do you like it? How does it work? Can you share pictures of it with me? If you don't like it what other reasonably priced cases are there for M's? What's your favorite and why?

Andrew I bought one of these and they are excellent but they are not waterproof so it is a good idea to get hold of a Nikwax product which will make the rain bead and run off. I also used Nikwax product on my Billingham bag which has now proofed that. I used to use it on CCS bags and my then Nikon would be kept perfectly dry having spent a full day in mountain rain and snow

Andrew, I recently bought what is called "an M / rangefinder" case made by OpTech. Superb. If you want something that's quick to use and ideal simply for protecting the camera in a bag or briefcase or whatever, this is excellent. You can also wear it like you would a hard case if you wish and I *think* it's waterproof too.

Certainly less expensive than the Leica one and a respected brand but it also looks to be made of neoprene which is not water resistant so you would be wise to treat it. Here is the Nikwax website Nikwax | Waterproofing, Cleaning and Insect Protection products. I used the spray on tent proof which I had left over from when I last sprayed my mountain Quasar tent

I totally agree. I've got both the short and long lens versions of the OpTech case for my Ms and they're perfect for the purposes described and very economical as well.

I got the Neoprene Case M, Number 14868, for $60 (Ace Photo but same price at B&H) and am using it for my D2 which has a pretty large lens diameter. I'm sure it would be fine on an M2. It's like a combination clamshell/ever ready case where the top section secures to the back using velcro. The case removes as one piece. There's also storage for 2 SD cards inside the back cover. The case seems good for bumps, etc., but probably not for drops, but then which case is?

Prior to this case, I used a Zing case where the case secures over the the lens. The Zing cases are about $30 and work just as well. Actually, they fit the D2 (and I suspect M series) even better than the Leica case as they stretch a little to fit.

I just went to B&H to verify the photo for my case. It appears that the case I have is the 14867, which is the Neoprene M case "Short" and that the camera store boxed the wrong one as the Leica box clearly is 14868. Anyway, it's $60 and I use the short M case on my D2 which works fine. I looked at the "correct" Neoprene M case, 14868, and it appears to have an excessively large front; designed for up to 80 mm lenses it quotes (which Leica doesn't make).

I use the neoprene case for the M8 as for the M6 as well. I can fully recommend it.

Have Leica M's ever been weatherproof? I strongly doubt it, looking at the body design. I'm keeping the M6 and M3 dry as well as the M8...

I have the short, it fits my M2 with 50mm DR Summicron and Luigi case. Ideal for dropping in another (non camera) bag.
