surfside Posted August 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) this thread is for those of you who read my thread 'supernoob reporting for duty' and suggested that i take & post some pictures here. i went camping in big basin with a bunch of friends and took the d-lux 4 along, and i've uploaded my favorites from the trip to flikr. these pics are straight off the camera -- no post-processing (haven't loaded c1 on my computer yet). you can check out the pictures here. i'd love to hear your thoughts -- comments, criticisms, suggestions -- don't hold back....let me have it. thanks in advance, surfside

candid Posted August 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2009 You've captured a special time and place for you and those in your photos. Very personal and illuminating even to those who don't know you. Choice of B&W is a good one especially the towering redwoods and the road in the forest. kalina Posted August 29, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2009 A few are blurry (the more action-oriented ones), but on the whole, the stills are poignant, beautiful, and document your trip very well. To me, they have a little bit of that "Leica look," but they could be improved by making them a touch brighter in-camera. I hope you haven't used too much zoom in these pics. I've discovered that the camera is at its best at f/2.0.
Tenor1 Posted August 29, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to agree with Kalina. Thanks for sharing those shots.
surfside Posted August 30, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted August 30, 2009 thanks for the nice comments everyone; i'm glad you've enjoyed the pics. i am most definitely happy with the d-lux 4 -- even after just a couple weeks of taking pictures with it, i wouldn't hesitate buying this camera again. they could be improved by making them a touch brighter in-camera. could you explain further what you mean by 'making them a touch brighter in-camera'? a decent amount of these pics were taken in relatively low light settings (ie. as the sun was going down), so i was actually pleased at how well they turned out given the lighting. but if there are other things i can do to improve, i definitely want to learn. anyways, thanks for the feedback kalina -- i really appreciate it. surfside
jankap Posted August 30, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 30, 2009 To me, they have a little bit of that "Leica look," but they could be improved by making them a touch brighter in-camera. It is sometimes confusing, that in the record mode the lcd screen extremely amplifies the brightness. A check in-between in the play mode is advisable. Thanks for the nice pictures of your trip, surfside. A wide angle camera is a very useful tool. Was it Cartier-Bresson saying something like, get close to the subject to make it big?
