M8 seems to be paint-resistant...

....if not weather-resistant.

This is how the Colo. School of Mines freshmen treated my black beauty.

To see the "Zapruder film" of the moment, go to this site and watch the video - it occurs between 3:02 and 3:03 in the movie. Stay for the credits - they star the M8.

Ramblin’ wrecks from Mines repaint ‘M,’ themselves - Rocky Mountain Independent

The headline is totally fortuitous, but doubly accurate. (Giggle!)

BTW, the still pix on the same page are with the M8, and all but the first two were taken AFTER the redecoration. It is still working today.

(I guess it was cheaper than buying the White Edition, even if it needs a CLA eventually. Which wears better, black chrome, black paint, or white latex?)

Ouch! I feel your pain. I'd have been in tears if that had been my camera. :(

Looking on the bright side though, you now have a quite unique camera, and you can vouch for the benefits of an IR-Cut filter. :)

I've managed to clean off most of it, except for the nook between the shutter dial and hot shoe, and a couple of thin cracks (framewindow edges, seam between on-off and shutter bezel)

Maybe I'lll just leave that - it IS latex, might make a good rubber seal.

The Denver Post videographer hung back and used a telephoto - I got better video, though! (If your pictures aren't good enough - you aren't close enough).

BTW the video camera also cleaned up well and is still functioning....

Yikes.

(Oh yeah...The M8 isn't a pro camera. ;) )

The video is interesting, but I like the stills better.

And my guess is that the strap will be the loser in this drama.

Throw it in the washing machine with some Vanish, followed by a hot wash. That should do the trick. :) Just don't forget to remove the camera first though!

On this side of the pond, "Vanish" is toilet bowl cleaner, not "Trust Pink, Forget Stains". I'm not sure I'd want to toss that in the washing machine, not subject my camera strap. ;)
