School of Mines freshmen treated my black beauty. To see the "Zapruder film" of the moment, go to this site and watch the video - it occurs between 3:02 and 3:03 in the movie. Stay for the credits - they star the M8. Ramblin’ wrecks from Mines repaint ‘M,’ themselves - Rocky Mountain Independent The headline is totally fortuitous, but doubly accurate. (Giggle!) BTW, the still pix on the same page are with the M8, and all but the first two were taken AFTER the redecoration. It is still working today. (I guess it was cheaper than buying the White Edition, even if it needs a CLA eventually. Which wears better, black chrome, black paint, or white latex?) Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Hi adan, Take a look here M8 seems to be paint-resistant.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Nicoleica Posted August 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2009 Ouch! I feel your pain. I'd have been in tears if that had been my camera. Looking on the bright side though, you now have a quite unique camera, and you can vouch for the benefits of an IR-Cut filter.
marknorton Posted August 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2009 Well Leica can't make paint which they want to stay on stick, so this should just wipe off... Seriously though, doesn't look great.
adan Posted August 25, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted August 25, 2009 I've managed to clean off most of it, except for the nook between the shutter dial and hot shoe, and a couple of thin cracks (framewindow edges, seam between on-off and shutter bezel) Maybe I'lll just leave that - it IS latex, might make a good rubber seal. The Denver Post videographer hung back and used a telephoto - I got better video, though! (If your pictures aren't good enough - you aren't close enough). BTW the video camera also cleaned up well and is still functioning....
footnoteblog Posted August 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2009 What paint do you use, Mark, for the M8 white? Just curious, because my camera says " 8". I mean, kinda awesome, but also OCD annoying
earleygallery Posted August 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 25, 2009 Jackson Pollock edition?
marknorton Posted August 25, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, as you may know, the finger rest unscrews with a 3/8" flex clamp which would allow you to clean that up. You can only remove the shutter dial from the underside, be careful of the two balls and springs if you do.
wstotler Posted August 25, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 25, 2009 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Or, something like that. Will have nightmares for a week, now.
Jamie Roberts Posted August 25, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2009 Ay Carumba Andy!! Are the clear parts (vf, rf, lens) ok at least!!? Just saw your last post. Whew!! At this point I'd be thinking well, thank heavens for the IR filter at least

adli Posted August 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 26, 2009 Jackson Pollock edition? Leica have already statet that this "contemporary design" was so genious that they will adapt it for the M9 collectors edition, which will be released in early desember this year
ljclark Posted August 26, 2009 Share #12 Posted August 26, 2009 Yikes. (Oh yeah...The M8 isn't a pro camera. ) The video is interesting, but I like the stills better. And my guess is that the strap will be the loser in this drama.
Mauribix Posted August 26, 2009 Share #13 Posted August 26, 2009 ... be careful of the two balls... I always thought the M8 was a tough camera:rolleyes:

Just don't forget to remove the camera first though!

Just don't forget to remove the camera first though! On this side of the pond, "Vanish" is toilet bowl cleaner, not "Trust Pink, Forget Stains". I'm not sure I'd want to toss that in the washing machine, not subject my camera strap.

NB23 Posted August 27, 2009 Share #17 Posted August 27, 2009 Paint remover. Totally harmless on Chrome and lifts paint like magic. This is how I took off the white letters on my M7 and M8. Apply and whipe.
