eleskin Posted August 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, it seems to me it is a foregone conclusion the M9 is coming. What I find interesting is the price reductions in the M8.2, and there is no hint this camera will be discontinued. What I believe is that Leica is going to keep making the M8 along with the new M9. We are now hearing the M9 does not differ too much in design from the M8, only it will be full frame with 18 or so MP, etc,,,. The M8 will serve as an entry level M digital, whereas the M9 will be the premium camera or flagship commanding the higher price. A year from now, when all the talk of the M9 quiets down, prices should come down a little. I could see an M9 priced at around $6,500 USD and an M8.3 (.3 meaning an improved sensor with better high ISO, but still a crop factor) and the M8 around $3000 USD or so. This will give Leica the ability to sell cameras to people who have different budgets for equipment. This should bring more money in, and actually increase production in the coming years. What is significant here is they will be doing what Nikon and Canon are by offering lower and higher priced cameras with different features. I hope this is what they at Leica are planning.
