It actually fits both ways, as I found out by mistake, but the one way it is a tight fit with the strap. gwelland Posted August 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2009 I have the RRS plate and use this on one of my M8 grip base plates. It works well but I find it rather bulky for general use. As mentioned, you need to set it up so that it leaves enough space for the strap to move around. For tripod use I much prefer the Kirk PZ-118 plate. It's not an L-bracket but it does fit perfectly on the baseplate and has a lip either side to enhance the stability of the tripod mount and not just stress the centre screw. Btw, I highly recommend getting a spare base plate/grip base plate for tripod use. I find it easy to have the normal base plate on most of the time and then quickly remove it and replace with a much more bulky tripod configured base plate (RRS/Kirk on it) when needed. I tried an RRS B9 plate on my M8.2, but I didn't like hanging the camera off the side of the ballhead (RRS BH-40) so I switched to an RRS MC-L L-plate. Back when I had a NIkon D300 I left an L-plate on it all the time, but I only use one on my M8.2 when I am using a tripod because I generally like using a half case. I'll go along with this completely - the RRS 'L' plate is clunky, doesn't fit particularly well (I got rid of mine). Same with the 'standard' plate RRS recommend for the M8 - its smaller than the Kirk version which is the problem. With the Kirk PZ-118 you can put the camera down securely (mine is sitting on my desk in front of me as I type), with the RRS plate it can easily topple. Most RRS products are superb but unfortunately their M8 options are, unusually, a compromise and it does show. I leave the PZ-118 on the standard baseplate all the time and - I tried a handgrip baseplate as a spare but I'll now sell that off as it doesn't see use. pgk Posted August 19, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2009 The Kirk plates fit RRS Ballheads fine (you need to remove any small locating/retaining screws though as these are positioned too close together - not a problem), I use my PZ-118 with both the BH-25 and BH-55 ballheads.
