I wonder how many forum members have noted that apart from their 4/3 2x crop digital slr lenses, and unlike Canon or Nikon, Leica have still not produced a digital range of lenses to suit the R8/R9/DMR combo.

The splendid Leica "backwards compatibility" policy of their lens range would also tend to precude this and yet digital photographers are denied the full effectiveness of the Leica lens range because of the digital sensor sizes being used.

I just wonder if it is feasible for a full frame sensor to be incorporated in a new digital back for the R9? Assuming the R lenses are up to the job (they seem to be OK on the 16mpx Canon DSLR, unlike some of the Canon lenses) what a great combo that would make..........the R9 is still the best film SLR ever produced in some reviewers opinion.

Having used the R9/DMR for a while now I just love using it, it is in my view neither clumsy or difficult to use, it is totally intuitive and produces great images. In fact I like more and more the idea of a digital back rather than an

R10 with an incorporated sensor etc.

Hi Dave, personally I'd expect the next Leica digital SLR (R10?) to be a camera rather than a back and to be in a body shell similar to the R8/9. During the development of the DMR Leica stated that there wasn't enough space for a full frame sensor and all the supporting electronics in the film gate of the R8/9. The ideal would be a new digital SLR with a full frame sensor IMHO.

I actually prefers the idea of a digital back ... Steve, now they are the new owner of Sinar, I assume that they've grabbed the design of the modular camera too. ;)

It's always fun to let a Canon or Nikon guy heft my R8/DMR. I usually have to convince them that it is part of my workout program. But I do find it wonderful to use with its fine balance and ergonomic, intuitive handling. Further, the weight helps steady handheld shots, much the same as a heavy target rifle is easier to hold on target.

I'd prefer it to be in a body the size of the R6, but somehow I doubt that'll happen. ;)

An R10 with full size sensor in an R6 body would be a definite winner. Even with present sensor it would certainly compete with the M8 – different concept but approx the same size with the advantages of long lenses capability!
