chris_tribble Posted August 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone experience of submitting higher ISO images to Alamy? I had one shot that I really liked, but it was rejected for "noise". The original was shot in very low light -- a view of Tower Bridge from down river, shot at ISO 320. I've given a link to the JPEG (processed from RAW in LR2) I sent to Alamy. If any of you have any thoughts on how it could have been better processed I'd be very interested to hear. If need be I can post a link to the original DNG. Dropbox - Photos - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy. Thanks for thoughts... Best... Advertisement Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here Preparing higher ISO M8 files for Alamy. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted August 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2009 Chris, from memory Alamy state in their guidelines that noisy/grainy images will be rejected. Of course this begs the question o when an image becomes noisy. The only thing I can think of to is some gentle noise reduction to reduce the noise that they're objecting to. jaapv Posted August 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 11, 2009 It is not THAT noisy.. Maybe they just object to the slight noise in the sky, if you masked that and de-noised it?
andybarton Posted August 11, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 11, 2009 Is that the kind of shot that Almay sell on your behalf?
chris_tribble Posted August 11, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted August 11, 2009 Is that the kind of shot that Almay sell on your behalf? Andy - not yet. I've actually never bothered to work with them before, but a friend has been getting very good returns from them, so I thought I'd put together a set. I've now heard back that they've accepted the second batch I sent in - so technically I'm OK (the evaluation has nothing to do with image aesthetics - only technical fit). If any one's interested, the "technically" successful ones that have just gone through the process are on my FTP site. Dropbox - Photos - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy. I now have to select from the archive and start to be systematic about uploading in future... Might as well! Still interested to know of any recommendations for preparing M8 ISO 320 or higher for stock (48MP JPEGS are what they ask for). Best
stunsworth Posted August 11, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 11, 2009 Chris, I think they only assess every image when you submit your first batch of images. Once you've been accepted I think they just check images at random from all the people submitting. It may be worthwhile submitting the image again and see if it gets accepted. Ah - cunning ploys... seriously, I might mess around with Noise Ninja a bit... For the moment, now that I'm in, I'll have enough to do going through the back catalogue and seeing what might be usable... Best...
