Come off it Erl. I just questioned what the point of the thread was seeing as any camera capable of triggering a strobe can be used to shoot a still life in a studio. I don't think anyone has ever suggested the M8 couldn't be used in such circumstances.

 

(Incidentally, your rather unnecessarily rude post reminds me of the old saying about how to recognise a well balanced Australian - he's the one with a chip on both shoulders.)

 

Erl wasn't the only one. I thought your comments were rude and argumentative. Why would you find it necessary to tell someone you can't see the point of his thread, or that he could have gotten the same results with a pinhole camera? Then you follow that up with a snipe on Australians. That's totally out of line.

Brent, I tend to agree with you about the Elinchroms (& the other matter ;) ), but I can assure you the even older Courtnays are totally bulletproof, if less controllable. Probably the only other person on the forum that may remember them would be KM-25. I think we are similar vintage.

I guess that excludes the pinhole then wouldn't you say?

Wattsy, I appreciate your sharp powers of observation. Obviously more acute than my Swedish ancestry! I had not noticed the extra chip on the shoulder of the average 'Joe' in the street. I guess the healthy climate has caused it to graft and flourish since the original chips were convicted and shipped out in a vain attempt to clean up 'the old country.'

David, I usually prefer available too, but this work definitely demanded 'controlled' light so I employed my very old portable studio stuff, as seen in the accompanying pic. It was a bit like getting on a bike after many years of driving a car. Just throw your leg over and away you go, as if you had never stopped. ;)

Ian I read your posts as un-necessarily abrupt as well. There is a world of difference between making a comment and making it politely.

Your pinhole reference is simplistic and your snipe at Australians is inappropriate unless directed at a friend. Otherwise it can be seen as rude. Context and manners.

It saddens me when somebody takes the trouble to openly share his thoughts, practices and results and ends up at the end of a thread wishing he hadn't bothered.

 

That might not reflect Erl's feelings at all, but it's what I'm reading into it.
