Åmund Posted August 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently suffered the ignomity to have my new thread moved from this forum and in retrospect I can understand why: It was a request for advice on the purchase of a new Mac. But I thought that since I intended to use it in connection with my M... However: As a fairly new user of this forum I would like to know if there are any written rules for the forum and where to find them. I got the advice I was seeking on Mac so I'm not that upset, but it would be nice to know the limits of scope for the M forum. Åmund
Advertisement Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Hi Åmund, Take a look here Forum rules. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SJP Posted August 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2009 Your thread was moved to the digital forum which I guess makes sense? It is not M8 specific and other digital leica owners might benifit from the discussion.
cbretteville Posted August 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2009 Åmund, In the "About the Leica Forum" forum there is a sticky thread at the top where the rules are explained. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/ - Carl
andybarton Posted August 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2009 The L Camera User Forum has a number of subsections (around 18 at the last count, in the International half, excluding the Challenge sections). The M8 sub-section, is but one of them. The Rules for the Forum (which I believe you would have seen when you registered) are here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/6909-rules-leica-forum.html The M8 sub-section is intended for questions and discussions specifically related to the M8. So, if you post something about using a Mac (even if it's to deal with M8 files) it's not an M8 thread. That is why it would have been moved (probably to the Digital sub-section, but I'd have to check). The relevant "rule" is "Please keep the sections on topic. For example, photos go to the photo forum please. The M8 forum stays for technical topics please." There is a very good reason for this. Leica staff (from the very top down...) do drop by into the forum to see what's under discussion. If the M8 sub-section was full of photo threads and vaguely related topics, it makes it much more difficult to get to the relevant topics. So, by keeping it focussed, we can help them to help us. So, if you have a question about a lens, that could be used on any M camera, it's highly likely that it will be moved to the Customer sub-section, as it will be of interest to people who have no interest the M8. However, if it's a lens question that is specifically related to the M8, then it will be left here (UV/IR filters, for example) We have this "discussion" on a regular basis. By keeping the forum tidy, it makes it easier for all to find threads of interest. If M8 users only posted threads in the M8 sub-section, then queries would very quickly fall off the front page, and then never get answered. That is why photo threads are moved to the Photo sub-sections, general query threads moved to the Customer section, and general digital queries placed in the Digital Section. Post Processing goes in its own, specific section. I hope that this is clear. BTW, I am not sure why you would consider it to be ignominous to have a thread moved.
