Kittyphoto Posted August 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have updated C1 from 4.8.1 to 4.8.2 a few days ago. Today I update Mac OS from 10.5.7 10.5.8 Just notice that today M8 files develop from OS 10.5.8 + C1 v.4.8.2 there is no f.stop metadata embeded. I thought the new OS 10.5.8 cause problem. But I am not sure what is the cause Mac OS 10.5.8 or C1 4.8.2? Update to OS10.5.8 files thumbnail browser on C1 Pro is much faster. I am quite happy no plan to step back but just curious what is the cause of f.stop metadata lost. Anyone got the experience? kitty
Advertisement Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Hi Kittyphoto, Take a look here No f.stop shows in metadata. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2009 Capture One can only guess at the f-stop with M8 files. Presumably it used to guess in earlier versions?
lars_bergquist Posted August 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2009 It is of course the camera itself that does the 'guessing', with the aid of the curious little extra peephole in front. There is as you know no transfer of aperture information from the lens to the camera; such a feature would have necessitated an entirely new line of lenses. But already before the launching of the M8, Leica decided that the guesses were so inaccurate that they deleted this info from the EXIF file. I agree with Leica's judgment, and clearly the C1 programmers have come to the same conclusion. The old man from the Age of Selenium Meters

odyocu Posted August 7, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2009 Bad news. I was quite happy with the estimated values. It was usually 5.0 for 5.6, or 2.x for F2 etc. I will miss that. I still have 4.8.1. and wonder what 4.8.2. does better. Pls advise if you find any other differences. Regards, Seyhun
jaapv Posted August 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 7, 2009 You can download an exif reader and look at the aperture.

perb Posted August 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 7, 2009 I'm using C1 V4.8.2 on Vista, and while aperture does NOT display in the info tab, it does display (as usual) in the short caption under the image. I use exiftool to look at exif data. Here is an example: # exiftool -"ApproximateFNumber" L9990330.DNG Approximate F Number : 4.0 For more info see http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/39117-secrets-blue-dot-revealed-other-m8.html Regards Per
delander † Posted August 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2009 I found the F number estimate quite useful and helpful so I've uninstalled ver 4.8.2 and re-installed ver 4.8.1 and it is back. In XP with ver 4.8.2 there was no F number estimate in the caption under the image. It would be helpful if Phaseone could document these changes, but never mind. They did include a M9 'profile' which was probably a mistake so it may be that the removal of the F number estimate was also a mistake. Jeff
odyocu Posted August 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2009 I'm using C1 V4.8.2 on Vista, and while aperture does NOT display in the info tab, it does display (as usual) in the short caption under the image. I do not see the aperture in the short caption. (M8+Vista + C1 4.8.2). I see exactly like: ISO 160 1/90 -- 35mm. After exporting to JPG with C1, I have not been able to see the aperture with Opanda IExif either. Why would it be necessary to hide the "estimated value" which everyone knows is an estimation, which is better than nothing. Regards Seyhun
adli Posted August 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 7, 2009 This document http://bretteville.com/pdfs/M8Metadata_v2.pdf contains some interesting information about the guestimates of the camera regarding the aperture value, se chapter
