The charger will not charge the battery past 25%! Anyone else has this problem? Can't believe it!
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Hi urbandiscount, Take a look here M8 faulty battery and/or charger . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted November 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2006 I would exchange it. Perhaps you can connect with another owner in your area, or go to your dealer to get the first few charges. Mine works fine.
urbandiscount Posted November 15, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 15, 2006 Already did, and thanks. Now on to the next issue: metering with non-leica lenses. It just doesn't seem to meter, so that now I'm reduced to using "The Force"....(probably a good thing). However.... and what's with the "12" in the viewfinder? Is it an error message? hammam Posted November 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2006 The battery doesn't charge? Tell me it ain't so. And are you sure non-Leica lenses don't meter? I can't see any reason why they shouldn't. Metering happens TTL and on the shutter, according to the aperture selected, right? Nothing electronic there, at least until the light hits the metering band. I've had CV lenses with an M6 and they metered all right. And they never said that coding was mandatory for metering. stunsworth Posted November 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2006 The camera doesn't know whose lens is mounted as there's no electrical connection. If there's a problem it lies elsewhere.
urbandiscount Posted November 15, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted November 15, 2006 Yes, I got that far too. Running a few tests, however, basic question: is the 12 in the viewfinder an error code. Anyone else with these issues? At least the battery charges.... edit for update: I had a full charge, with the new charger/battery, then had 60 shots before the battery ran empty, charged a depleted battery: charging stops, I insert the battery into the camera: indicator says: empty. Now I'm back to the same issue with battery and charger no1. What am I doing wrong? The manual says there is a pulse charge for depleted batteries, with a flashing yellow light? I'm not seeing it... hammam Posted November 15, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 15, 2006 In the manual, they cite a few lens models that don't allow metering.... Are you sure of that. Where in the manual did you find this? What I know is that they list lenses you can't use because they go too deep into the body and will damage the sensor if forced in, like Hologon 15, or some retractable lenses, like the older Elmar 90/4. But metering?

If it is an error code.... Not sure if this is he same thing... I can get mine to have the number 12, when shutter speed is set to "A" and you don't have enough light... canlogic Posted November 15, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 15, 2006 I would remount the appropriate plug adapter on to the unit, in case something didn't connect right. Also try plugging the charger into another outlet in case there happens to be a ground fault or something with the outlet you are useing. When you put the battery in the lights should come on stead and the orange one go out after 2-3 hours. Deplete the battery in camera before recharging. It should take about 3 full cycles before you get full useage out of the battery.

craigrmurray Posted November 16, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 16, 2006 Alex: Can't figure out your battery problem -- haven't had any problems with mine. My 15mm f4.5 Super -Wide Heliar meters just fine. No issue here -- just make sure to work the aperture back and forth. I won't touch the lens cap issue (LOL). My 21mm f3.4 Super Angulon fits the M8, but will not meter, just as the manual states. But it won't meter on any M camera, because the rear element protrudes too far back into the camera body. Other than the 1st version 28mm Elmarit (same issue as the 21mm SA), I don't know of any other Leica lenses that you can mount, that won't meter. robsteve Posted November 16, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 16, 2006 doubtlessly - but not in this case. getting a bit cranky because of the "Leica experience" Sorry, but it has happened a few times when people got the M7. Here is another stupid question, but is there a SD card in the Camera and is it an SD card on the approved list? I suggest you call Leica and see what they say if you cannot otherwise figure it out.
